Hi,

I was curious to play this game after replaying the wing commander series, but i discovered that unlike WC, the joystick doesn't work.

I'm guessing that the probable reason is that WC is based on Dosbox that has integrated joystick support while Freespace is based on WineHQ which doesn't.

Anyway, is there any way to use a joystick with Freespace 1 on a Mac?

Thanks!

EDIT: the joystick shows up in the launcher SETUP but I'm not able to get to settings or calibrate - the buttons don't work.

I know this isn't a solution if you're stuck with Freespace 1 but you could try playing FSPort via Freespace SCP (which is running natively on Macs). Freespace 2 is required though.

Tell me if you need additional instructions
So, if I understand correctly, a solution would be acquiring Freespace 2 - from GOG, for example - install the FS open source version and port the missions from Freespace 1 to the Freespace open source engine, right?

Sounds feasible. I will check it out.

Thanks.

EDIT: GOG Freespace 2 is only available for Windows, for now.

The latest version of the freespace open installer includes functionality to install the Windows, Linux and OSX native versions of the game, all you need to do is download the gog installer and point the freespace open installer at it when prompted.
