Anyone know if the FreeSpace games here on GOG are v2 installers yet? And do they come with nGlide for 3DFX emulation?

Why would you use the nGlide wrapper when there's Freespace Open, which uses OpenGL natively? Do yourself a favour and go to hard-light and install the mediaVPS too for more modern graphics and support for newer resolutions.

I know about FSO, which runs for FreeSpace 2, with the first game's campaign played as a mod. It also means a lot more downloading for the higher resolution textures and my internet isn't that fast.

That isn't the question I asked, though. So, anyone else?
Okay, I decided to get them both from GOG before the sale ended, so I've found out the following for myself:

Both FreeSpace 1 and 2 are v2 installers.

FreeSpace 1 does not come with nGlide, but it can be used with the game if you install it yourself, meaning that it is possible to get the improved effects of the 3DFX version and you can push the game resolution up using the nGlide configurator.

However, I've not yet got started on the second game so I don't know if that one has nGlide. I would assume it doesn't as the first doesn't have it. Though for the second game I will be looking at using the Source Code Port anyway as there are some mods I'm interested in too.

To clairfy, you don't need to download the high res textures if you don't want to, for some reason (stone age internet etc). You can just download the latest release of the engine (without downloading the high res textures MediaVPS) which would total around 30mb. The upgraded textures come to around 1.6 gb - coincidentally pretty close to the size of the stock gog download - which obviously didn't pose you any difficulty, but whatever..
Admittedly the current install procedure, linked to in my first post, is somewhat complicated, but a new installer is about to be released - there is no real reason to be using such a kludge solution as a glide wrapper when a much better solution is at hand. If you or anyone reading this require assistance installing FSO, post on the forums at hard-light.net and the community there will be more than happy to assist.
