Please help me out. when I download it, it's a rar/zip file and I do not know what to do.

You have to unpack it - Windows should handle .zip files, for .rar you would need to install something like this - 7zip

It's actually an executable .jar so you'll need java installed - if you don't have it already get it here: https://www.java.com/en/download/
After java is installed you should be able to just run the FreeSpace Open Installer by double clicking it.
