Ive vowed to replay FS1 and 2 without getting distracted---should i play 1 vanilla, or port it out--- ive still got the downloads but i cant remember any advantages over just graphics----clue in a re-newb if you could,,,Thanks

I would say go with the FSOInstaller, downside is that you really don't need FS1 for it if you already have it, although I do not know the strict legality of FSPort.

Definitely go with Freespace 2 Open (use the new installer) and the wxLauncher for Windows. It will give you upgraded graphics and TrackIR support and many other improvements. FSPort takes care of all your FS1 needs as well and runs within FS2 Open.
