So i thought i had followed all the directions for installing Freespace 2 Open and FSO open, but when I launch the game and go into the campaign room the only option is the freespace 2 campaign.
The graphics and what not aspect of the mod definitely work, as it looks good. Here are the basic steps I followed when installing everything
install to C:\games\FreeSpace2
make sure game works first
-put TrackIR SCP.dll into FreeSpace2 root dir
-put fs2_open_3_6_14.exe and Launcher.exe into root freespace2 folder
-copy mediavps_3612 folder (contains all mandatory and optional files) to root install directory
-Open the launcher and go to the MOD tab and click "Select MOD". From here select the 'mediavps_3612' folder and click ok.
-Go to the "Features" tab to activate the specific features FSO offers. The recommended settings are:
==> Graphics List:

Enable Specular
Enable Glowmaps
Enable Environment Maps
Apply Lighting to Missiles
Enable Normal Maps (If your system supports this)
Enable 3D Shockwaves (Personal preference) (switches shockwaves from always facing the camera to spawning with random orientations)

==> Gameplay List:

Enable 3D Warp
Enable Flash on Warp (Personal preference) (switches on a simple flare effect that flashes when a subspace vortex opens and closes)

==> Audio List:
Preload mission game sounds

-Copy 'fsport' and 'fsport-mediavps' and 'fsport-str' (they contain all the mandatory and optional files) to your freespace 2 root install folder

EDIT: here is a link to a pic of my directory and launcher

In the launcher if you select "mediavps_3612" that launches the standard freespace 2 campaign and that is the only thing that can be chosen within the game itself. To launch a mod, you have to choose that mod (e.g."fsport") from the game launcher instead of "mediavps_3612" - it will decide what assets it needs to use, "mediavps_3612" or its own or both. In other words, you can't use the campaign room within the game to launch a mod, you have to use the game launcher itself to do so.

The people at hard-light also recommend that players should create a new pilot for each mod rather than use one pilot across different mods. I haven't encountered any problems using one pilot across multiple mods, but apparently in the past it would cause stability issues and the last I checked it was still a recommended practice as a "just in case". That may have been alleviated completely now, but it's something to keep in mind.

Good hunting!
