I never picked this game up when it came out so playing through the original single player campaign was a real treat for me. The story and gameplay reminded me of some of the old school space combat games by Lucasarts such as X-Wing and TIE Fighter, which I was really into at the time.
Also there appears to be a thriving community surrounding the open-source version of the game (FS2Open) which requires a retail copy of the game to work properly. I was able to get FS2Open working with my GOG.com copy with no problems, which gave me access to several new features such as widescreen resolution support.
Best six bucks I ever spent. Thanks GOG.com!
