Hello all. I'm on the Doomsday mission, ordered to protect the crippled Galatea until it can jump out of the system. I do fine with all the fighters & bombers and protected all the escape pods, but then the Lucifer jumps in and, no matter what I do, destroys the Galatea. That was the primary goal of the mission, so it's marked 'failed' on the in-flight mission screen.

Is there any way to save the Galatea, or is it inevitable?

When you actually fail a mission, the game simply doesn't let you progress.
