Every time I attempt to launch FS1, I get the standard Windows "FreeSpace has stopped working" error message and have to close. Prior to a reinstall the game was generating a UAC prompt every time the executable was run, but now it's not doing it, but the crash persists. I thought it might potentially be due to the game being installed in the Program Files folder, since there are sometimes issues with write permissions there, but moving it to a separate drive did nothing. Strangely enough, the main fs.exe executable seems to always want admin access; the compatibility settings are automatically set to "Always run as administrator," and both it and a few other compatibility options are greyed out unless I select the "Change settings for all users" option on the compatibility tab. Running as admin or not doesn't seem to make a difference.

(And before anyone says anything, I've been part of the FS community for 15 years, so trust me I'm well aware of FSOpen and the FreeSpace Port. I was actually trying to investigate a difference between missions in retail FS1 and in the Port; otherwise I wouldn't have bothered with trying to run the original retail game.)
