Volition released the freespace and freespace 2 source codes for open source
communities a few years ago. Therefore it's freely downloadable.
The source code project has also upgraded the graphics engine to
current standards, making the game a real jaw dropper.

While I also do have the Free Space Open Project, I believe Interplay is recieving money for this and I'm not going to be a cheap bastard and skip the opportunity to pay back for a great game.

That and maybe someone will go, "hey let's make a Freespace 3"...
Ah who am I kidding. ¬¬
Actually, one of the devs from Freespace 2 was trying to acquire the liscense to make a Freespace 3 some time ago, but apparently he was never able to do so.
Freespace openengine is great thing but still you need original game data to play it :D
Therefor it is good to buy the game here and them just download latest openFS build and play it with your newes graphics card :D
I've just downloaded and installed FSOP. It looks truly ace! Thank you Donut for directions :)
Looks good, I am gonna get it since I got freespace 2 off here. I always like source ports for my old games.
