Hello

I got my hands on the GOG installer of Freespace 2, the installer worked perfectly in Windows safety mode, but now, in normal mode, the program crashes on startup, no odd behaviour, just the screen chages to black and crash screen, when i furtherexplored the game folder, i found out the Freespace 2 mission editor(FRED2.exe), Freespace 2.exe( i tried running it, got the setup screen and adjusted it to my hardware, no joystick, and no audio acceleration) and the game exe itself, which crashes at startup.
In further analysis of the game folder i found it's error log.txt
Due to the lack of a CODE function in this forum i can't post the file :\

Here's a summary of my system:

Have you tried the usual - i.e. running the program as administrator? If not, try running the program as administrator. If that doesn't work, I've heard that for Freespace 1 running the game in glide mode allows the game to work (requires downloading a glide wrapper like nglide). I can't remember if vanilla FS2 has a glide option or not. However, you say that running Freespace 2.exe works - have you tried playing the game through that?

While normally I would recommend installing the FSOpen Engine (a modern open source engine for Freespace 2), I'm not sure that your computer would be able to handle it. I don't think it would.

Hm... maybe it could... FSO (Freespace 2 SCP) is very flexible when it comes to disabling/enabling features. For example do not install cutscenes in OGG format, do not enable MediaVPs 3.6.1 if your machine cant handle it (as a last resort). Fiddle with options. I would definitely give FSO a try!

Refer to http://www.gog.com/en/forum/freespace_series/quick_and_simple_freespace_2_scp_installation_guide

and let us know if that helped.
