Hey guys,
I found a Freespace 2 disc lying in my room not too long ago and decided to have a go at it (after so many years of ignoring it).
Turned out the game is awesome, especially when I play it with my old 'n' dusty joystick so I fought through Act 1 of the campaign.
And here's the problem. After the mission 'Feint! Parry! Riposte' the admiral says you have a choice to do some missions for a prototype team. I clicked 'accept' and it got me back to the main menu, denying me the pleasure of continuing and saying 'this campaign is over'. What the hell?
Maybe I pressed the wrong button? I restarted the campaign, got to that point, made sure I click 'accept' and again the same thing!
So, long story short, after the last mission of Act 1 it says the campaign is over. How can I continue?
Help!
EDIT:
Nvm, Enabling FS2 Open seems to have solved the problem for some reason.
EDIT2:
Turned out that the version of Freespace 2 that I had installed was the OEM version (restricted to first 10 missions). Apparently, FS2 Open has its own mission files, thus enabling them in the OEM version. The downside to this is no voices after mission 10 (since it relies on the game's voice pack). But don't abuse this! Having found out, I bought FS2 from GoG. :)

FSO tends to solve a lot of things. But I'd like to correct something. FSO itself doesn't contain missions or other assets. It's just a modified version of the game engine. The MediaVPs (the collection of awesome graphical and audio upgrades) do contain the FS2 main campaign missions, mainly because they have been edited in order to fix some bugs and use considerably better backgrounds. So that's why you were eventually able to continue the campaign; the game was ignoring the "retail" missions altogether and was using the ones included in the MediaVPs.
Sorry, i tend to think of FSO as FSO + MediaVPs for some reason ^^
Still, awesome game, shame I only had the Colossus OEM version, great that GoG had it available for me to buy, super awesome that FSO + MediaVPs exist :)
Save your game and move the saved game file to a safe place uninstall your FS2 game and purchase FS2 from GOG and download it, then copy your saved game to the new working vista version upgraded FS2 and have fun.

That's exactly what I did those few days ago ;)
Gotta say, though, I was at least a bit surprised that the saves worked.
Well, personally I don't know everything about the OEM version, but it is entirely possible that it had the same game engine as the regular FS2, but was only missing some of the assets (missions, voices, possibly ship models/textures and stuff). If that's the case, the pilot files generated by it should be compatible with regular FS2. And FSO.
OK, What Version of FSO are you using and are you running any Mods?

CDA, huh? I was also pretty angry to discover that it was a demo.
