It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I ran the game and the attached image occurred. Almost immediately after most of my program icons changed to the unassociated program icon (aka the icon used when Windows doesn't recognize the file).
Edit: Oh my goodness. The problem with broken icons has extended to my desktop, start menu, and windows explorer. I've attached screenshots.
Please someone help with this? :(

Seems I figured out how to fixed the icons with the following.
1. Open Control Panel and double click Display-applet
2. Select Appearance-tab and click Advanced
3. in Item-dropdown select Icon
4. Increase Size and press Apply-button
5. Decrease Size back to old value and press Apply-button
6. Press Ok-button
I'm still having problems with my firewall asking if I'd like to give Freespace permission to do something ( I don't know what)

Why is no one from GOG answering my question about this?
Does the Firewall tell you where it is trying to connect to?
What ports is it trying to use?
Have you run an updated virus scan lately?
It's most likely due to the way Freespace was coded. Most games are created in two halves; server and client, so as to minimise the additional code required for writing the multiplayer component.
While Freespace doesn't need to connect to your network, it still sets up the server and client, which works through the operating system's network interface (at least i think thats how it works).
