I purchased Freespace 2 but I was unable to play because the fonts appeared so disorted that I was very difficult to read anything.
After spending a lot of time searching for a solution, I found a fix consisting in adding a "DWORD Value" called "D3DTextureOrigin" and set to "1" to the following place in the registry:
If you have XP it should be here: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREVolitionFreespace2]
If you have Vista 64 it should be here: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWow6432NodeVolitionFreespace2]
IMO GOG should add it to the installer for compatibility purposes.

If it it's a DirectX issue, you can try OpenGL instead. FreeSpace Open uses OpenGL anyway.
It also works for Freespace 1 (Win7 32-bit)

Thanks man. I could not read anything until applying your solution. Why GOG did not add this change to the installer?

I've sent an info about this to the support. They've said they'll look into it.

This really helped. Thanks.
Excellent fix. Thank you!
I must add my thanks to you aswell.
This fix worked like a charm.
Just wanted to say thanks, still a problem with the April 2012 version on GOG.

Someone suggested OpenGL, this is not an option with the GOG version (at least as of april 2012). The http://scp.indiegames.us/ open free space project is a possibility which may have been was was meant.
