I tried running the GOG downloaded version of FS2 and am getting horrible 1 FPS frame rates during the earliest, simplest combat missions. My system is a Core 2 Duo E6600 with 2 Gig ram and 7600 GT so I'm assuming this is abnormal. FPS is fine until enemies are engaged and explosions start happening; this makes the game essentially unplayable. Anyone have any ideas?
I've since downloaded fs2 open and everything's working great, but I wanted to post anyway to hopefully let GOG and other players know in case there's some core problem.
This is my first time playing FS2, (or any FreeSpace), and having been a fan of Tie Fighter and X-Wing, I think FS2 is truly great. I'd like to thank GOG for singling it out for inclusion in their distribution and of course making it available for such a great price. Thanks!
I've noticed this too. Haven't tried with FSOpen though.
It may be that Freespace doesn't play nice with some dual-core systems. Try opening the task manager and setting the game to run on a single core.
It may have been a corrupted install also. You could try uninstalling and then reinstalling.
