Might get this in the buy one get one free. If I install FSOpen will I be able to run the game at 1024x600 resolution? I remember trying the demo and not being much use because it didn't even compress to fit to the screen.

Yes, but only after FSO. Runs beautifully on there with high settings and 1024x600.
Freespace 2 that is, I can't confirm the others in the series.

Haegemonia is a really good space RTS that also runs well on a netbook. 800x600, no scrolling.
