in the setup i choose the 3dfx but no support in game it run only on software mode...

i want glide mode because i know it has better FX

Please help

Saturno83
just runned quake II one of my favourite games all time in 1024 768 with 3dfx open gl
so it isnt from the wraped glide

don know what to do freespace starts always in software mode :(
hmmm ... where did you put the glide wrappers? i.e. the game folder or your system (not bad, but will apply one glide wrapper to all games which is not necessarily what you want).

Did you follow these steps?

Hello thank you for your reply!

I installed nglide is something missing?

on the setup of freespace it detects the 3fdx card but when i run the game no 3dfx splash screen and only runs in software mode ....

i installed nglide normaly just push the button and it installs.... only that

do i need to put the glide dll files in the game directory? i already done that but not sure if in the correct place

Based on my experience with other glide wrappers it should just be a matter of putting them in the game directory. I have not used nGlide but not all glide wrappers put in a splash screen. However, you say the game is still usuing software mode? Hmmmm ... I don't know, it sounds like nGlide comes with a configurator - have you tried fiddling with that?

HI! I tried the configurator and also installed rollcage demo and run it trough glide....so quake 2 and roll cage are fine using glide but freespace is not :(

my freespace version of the game is the freespace + expansion bought in GOG games

dont understand whiy this is happens Nglide seems awesome in other games and in freespace it detects in the setup box the 3dfx mode but the game run in software....explosions are blurry and the nebula effects are strange lol

ps- in rollcage i get a 3dfx splash screen

where i put the glide files in freespace ? in what folder do you know?

To be honest, while I have a copy of FS1, I typically play FSport through the Freespace Open Engine so I've not tried glide with this game - just other GOG games like Red Baron. However clearly nGlide does work for other people with FS1 so I'm not sure what is going wrong. :/ Sorry I can't be more helpful. If I come up with something I'll let you know - maybe someone else will figure it out.
ok thank you very much!

if anyone can give me a help i will appreciate!

:)
HI!

I decide to try this in another pc i have an old :P athlon x 2200+ with 2 gig ram and a radeon 9600 pro
installed nglide and the freespace 1 and the game rocked! great detail and explosions! SUBERB!

I think this doesnt work in my laptop because it has TWO graphical cards one intel HD graphics and one Radeon mobility 5670

i think for lower applications intel hd working and stress application radeon working...not sure but...
But i think the problem is this dual graphic card thing....

Best Regards

ps- anyonne know how to change the splash screen from 3dfx to the older one? i kinda like it more :P

hmmmm ... that'd be an odd bug, especially since it only affects FS1 and not other games as well. Glad it's working now for you on at least one computer though! :)

Good hunting
Hey guys, I had exaclty the same problem with my PC. (Specs: i7 with Onboard intel Graphics and GTX660, Windows 8.1).
3dfx Screen won't show up and no higher resolution in game after installing and configuration of nglide in freespace.exe.

I solved the problem as followed:

I set the freespace.exe on Windows 95 compatibility mode and run it with administrator rights.
In fresspace.exe I set 3DFX mode an run the game over the freespace.exe launcher instead of the gog shortcut.

Works fine for me with 1600x1200.
Seriously look at Freespace 2 Open and the FSPort for some great eye candy. These guys have made the game look awesome. The Freespace 1 campaiggns FSPort and FSPort Silent Threat: Reborn look great. There are dozens of other campaigns that have been upgraded to use the new graphics as well.

Just need a copy of FS2 and the new installer. Much easier to get all patched up these days.

Seconded; Freespace SCP + FSPort is all you need if you want the best Freespace 1 experience you can possibly have. The only advantage the 3Dfx version had was that nebula fog was done slightly better, but the SCP OpenGL version does everything else lightyears better!

If you can get the MediaVP's as well - That requires a beefier GPU but drastically improves things like weapon effects, models, and texture.

Absolutely beautiful, and all done by volunteers! The quality of the engine and media upgrades puts a lot of commercial companies to shame, not to mention the extra missions and campaigns!

(And not just serious ones too! If you want a laugh, I highly recommend the Just Another Day series ^_^)

thx. this worked, the win95 compatibility is the key btw. :) in that mode the launcher shows up, in windows xp compatibility not :)
