Not happy!
After waiting an hour and 40 minutes for the set up file to download, went to install it and after 3 attempts of clicking on it and then having to reboot because it froze my system, I finally managed to get the set up/install page up. Went to click "I accept terms blahdeblah" and continue and nothing. Totally froze the system. My husband is not happy with me!
Our pc is windows xp, 2.5Ghz and has 768MB of Ram. Ok so it isn't the newest kid on the block but it is well over the recommended system requirements. Is anyone else having problems like this?
I also got a security warning when I clicked on the set up file. Did anyone else get that?

Hm, I didn't have any problems. By the way, are you talking about Freespace 1 or 2? Anyway, if you are using Vista, try rightclicking on the file and then click on "run as administrator". This might help. If that's not the problem, I have no idea.
Maybe your file is corrupted somehow. When encountering problems like this, try redownloading the file, and if you're lucky, it will work. If you then still have the same problem, you might want to contact tech support.
It's freespace 2 and we use XP
I think I'll delete the file and download it again. I hope it works soon....waited years to play this game again! I have raised it with support anyway because the security warning seemed a bit weird to me.
Oh well.....

Is there any news? I was just wondering if you were able to solve the problem.
Edit: removed extremely embarassing typo.

I'm having the exact same problem.
Downloaded the installer. Clicking on it does nothing. Attempting to run as Administrator freezes my system.
Deleted and re-downloaded. Same exact thing happened.
Help?

We downloaded it again and it worked but you do need to be patient. It does freeze the system but after a while it starts off. It just needs thinking time! Once it gets going though it runs really well (so much so that I haven't done any work for the last week!)

I don't have XP running so results may vary..
I have Vista 32-bit and I had a similar issue last night (after picking up the game from the Buy 1 Get 1 Free deal). At first I double clicked and I didn't think it ran - I think the installer just takes a bit longer (the Shogo installer, for instance, was pretty quick to show up for me).
I first tried to right click on the installer and "Run as Administrator" - this didn't seem to work well. I went to Control Panel then "User Accounts" to turn off "Account Control". Disabling this turns off all the annoying "do you want this program to run?" warnings *every single time you install something*. That did the trick for me.

Keep in mind with Vista (and maybe XP with the latest patches/service pack) that there's a delay when a setup file is run. This has something do with verifying the setup package, and of course, the larger the file, the longer it'll take. Especially on older hardware (e.g. my laptop is about 1/2 the speed of my desktop and the verification takes about twice as long).
Edit
Oddly enough, when I went into my account settings, I got a notification at the top of the screen telling me about the time it takes to open a large setup package under vista and why.
