Just got the game and I've been trying to run it, and no matter on Windows 10 what I do it will not launch. Tried running it in compatibility mode, windowed mode, as an admin, in 640x480 configuration - nothing worked. The farthest it gets is showing the Crave splash screen and then it fully crashes. I updated my drivers as well, so that's not it either.

Any help? I used to play this game a ton back in the day and I'm pretty miffed I can't get it running

Have the same problem. It used to work fine until last Nov or so.

Same problem here with win 11! Anybody has found a way to make the game run? Best! Seb.
Windows 11 issues here too, had it working in 10 after trying the fixes.

I can provide the whole report if it helps anyone figure it out.
Same problem. Crave screen, then crash.
If memory serves correctly, Freedom Force does not work well with v-sync on. I also think it doesn't work well with either anisotropic filter or anti aliasing turned on. Its just been so long I can't remember which, but I'm leaning towards anisotropic filtering.
Got it working. Download dgVoodoo2 from http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2/

Copy all the files in dgVoodoo2_79_3.zip file from the \MS\x86\ folder to C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Freedom Force

That's these files:

D3D8.dll
D3D9.dll
D3DImm.dll
DDraw.dll

Copy the dgVoodoo.conf and dgVoodooCpl.exe from the zip archive to the same GOG install folder.

Mine worked after that on Windows 10 Pro 21H2. Enjoy!
I had the same problem, bought the game yesterday. Tried various settings under Win 10 and dgvoodoo2, nothing worked. Game crashed after the second screen. Unfortunately I wasn´t allowed to past a link, but there is a topic on gog where it says to add "-w" to the execution file (fforce-w). This finally worked for me and full-screen is still enabled.

My other settings: Combatilbilty mode off, Dgvoodoo 2 DirectX Settings: Disable and passthru to real DirectX. So far I just tried to load the first mission, no problems at first glimpse.

Good Luck!

I am having this exact same issue and none of the fixes here work.
Hey everyone. I'm a longtime player/ modder for both games and you can find me usually of the Freedom Reborn Forums under Randomdays (Gog says that's already taken here) I've been running around the games since about 2010.

So I just helped someone out on the FR forums who had the same problem - crashing at the Crave Logo.

He tried everything above as well as some other suggestions we gave him, and nothing worked.

I actually sent him some files from my original CD install, patched to 1.3, and then a no-cd patch for the game.

The no-cd patch is dated 5/22/2005 and is 3.296 megs in size.

This got him up and running and into the game.

Not sure if this was the problem or some of the other files I sent him, but it DID get him up and running.

Edit - -a further update - he tried installing it directly from the cd, updated it and then applied the no-cd patch and that worked as well, So the only file that was changed was the no cd patch. If you can find it, the right version since there's more than one out there I think, replace the GoG version and you might be up and running.

Gog must be using their own version of a no-cd patch that only works sometimes.

Come on over to the Freedom Reborn forums and join the group. We're friendly, honest!

Having the same issue. When I try to launch, get a full-screen black screen with the loading wheel for a few seconds, then nothing. Still waiting to hear back from support. I really wanna try this game. This really shouldn't ever be an issue in this day and age.

SOMETIMES when I start the game, I get a noise seemingly coming from the intro, but it's still all black. That's as far as it gets.

Just encountered this issue on my PC, getting an older no-CD patch as mentioned my @randommonsters above worked, but while messing around with the files I found out that somehow changing the name of the .exe file also solved the issue. When it's named fforce.exe the game crashes after the Crave logo, after renaming to anything else it starts with no problems whatsoever. I have no idea why it works, but I'm sharing my find in case anyone experiences the same situation.
