Hi there,

I wondered about the bad performance of the game on my PC especially when I saw how fluent it works on let's play videos on youtube. Even my mouse pointer has only about 15 - 20 fps...

I already disabled vsync, shader and also changed display resolution but it always looks the same? Any suggestions?

Using the latest Windows version, a Ryzen CPU and 16 GB memory. Little Misfortune worked well.

Thanks!

Hello aDv3nturE,

Actually, the system requirements for running Fran Bow are considerably less than for Little Misfortune, and the game engines are different, but I do think though that if your computer runs Little Misfortune well, then Fran Bow should too.

There are some differences in how the games operate. For example, the Fran Bow game is capped at 30 FPS. No amount of tweaking is going to get you more than this frame rate. You say you get only 15 to 20 FPS. When I play on my computer, I get 30 FPS very consistently while playing except for a second or two drop in FPS when the game screen changes, as Fran moves from room to room in the game, or cutscenes begin or end, or when Fran takes her pills, or mini-games begin or end, or the menu is accessed. During those second or two transitions, the FPS drops to about 25 FPS mostly, although sometimes it goes down to 12 to 15. Again though, only for a second or two, before rising back to the solid 30 FPS which is the cap. And I see no difference in the frame rate when I'm moving the cursor with my mouse. Are you getting frame drops when moving the cursor with your mouse? If so, is it a standard mouse, or something different?

What software are you using to test the frame rate? You post caused me to download FRAPS to test, as I had never done this before I consistently got the rates mentioned in the paragraph above. Perhaps I can try the software you're using on my computer to see if I get my same results.

In my experience, the settings for Shaders and V-Sync has very little effect (none really) in the frame rate. On computers that barely meet the specs for playing the game, it is recommended to turn off Shaders as when Fran takes her pills, Shaders are used extensively, and computers with low specs are most likely to experience FPS drops during these times. But I wouldn't expect your computer to have this issue based on the partial specs you provided in your post. Changing the screen resolution also would have little effect, as the resolutions beyond the smallest one are digitally enlarged.

I used a 7 year old computer with an i7-4790 CPU @ 3.6 GHz, 16 GB or RAM and a 2 GB NVidia GTX 760 Ti video card to get these results. Are the drivers on your video card up-to-date? Does your Ryzen CPU have an integrated video card as well as a dedicated one? If so, what is the model of the dedicated card and the integrated one? Have you ensured that the Fran Bow game is running on the dedicated one? If so, try running the game on the integrated one to see if that helps. As you no doubt are aware, usually the dedicated card is the preferred one to use for gaming, but perhaps the integrated one in your computer would work better with this game. And if you';re using the integrated card, try the dedicated one to see if that helps.

The only other suggestion I have is to disable any unneeded programs that run automatically when your Windows computer starts. I honestly don't think this is an issue since you have 16 GB of RAM, but if there's something that is using A LOT of RAM, it's something to try.

The Fran Bow game doesn't look "choppy" on my computer when playing. I do have a laptop that is considerably lower spec than the minimum required to run the game. On that laptop, the game looks a bit choppy in places, and the music stutters in places, but the frame rate hovers around 25 to 30 most of the time, but does drop considerably lower during transitions.

I'm unsure if anything here is helpful, but I don't think I have any other suggestions. I'm happy to further discuss with you if you care to reply.

The reason your mouse is slow and it's low fps is because it's locked at 30 fps.

It looks terrible and feels terrible on a 144hz monitor. Several posts from years ago complaining about it but I guess they never got around to it.
