Can someone interpret this quest message for me please? All I can make out is for so many berries go to where? the icon for the destination appears to be a hammer, which I can't make any sense of.

I got stuck here too. I believe they need all their needs taken care of. Housing, food, *and* a church.

Thanks for that, I didn't know that. However, I still do not know the meaning of the quest message to upgrade the serfs when it shows an icon of the berries (30 required) to be delivered to a hammer?????

This is the first game I have bought in Alpha, because I'm a fan of this genre, and I can safely say, that it will be the last. No guide, no tutorial, just work it out for yourselves. For 40 odd bucks, that's a bit rich.

Those are two different quests.

Turning serfs to commoners is done by fulfilling their needs, as said by Jeakle.

The 30 berries delivered to the hammer is another quest that pops from time to time, you are asked to get something (berries, fishes or bread) to either the church (the white papal hat), the king (swords ?), your people (the hammer) or to no one. To get this one done, when you chose someone to give it, you have to get the required item in a storage. When you have enough of it, you'll be able to deliver it and close the quest.
Well... No wonder I get stuck...
Trade doesn't do anything. I don't have tools. Can't build the church. The quests for tools constantly ask for food items I don't have.

Trade: Am I supposed to manually do that? If so, how?
You have to buy tools from your neighbor until you can make your own.

Hey. I understand the confusion. I only understood this by watching some YouTube videos and checking out other threads but it does have a rhyme and reason. You need to use a warehouse in order to trade and deliver quest trades. You have to stock whatever it is you want to trade. Berries are kind of tricky if you're already selling them at the market so go to the resource tab and click 'stockpile' and the vendor should stop taking the berries so that they can be stocked and then traded or delivered for the quest. If you have set up trade for the item that you're trying to stock to finish the trade quest, stop trading them away until that quest is done as the trader will take the items from storage as he makes his rounds. The trade quests will turn the red 'x' into a green one once youve stocked the amount requested. Once it turns green, click on it and your quest is complete. The game does hint to this when you get the set up trade prompt and tells you to add the hammers to your warhouse but it doesnt exactly spell it out for you. Also, dont take trade quests for items you cant yet produce. Hope this helps.

The hammer you're reffering to probably isn't the tools but the icon for peasants or labor. At the top of the screen there is a hammer for peasants, a sword for nobility and a crown for the church. Each time you get a quest you can decide which of those your efforts will work towards as their rewards will help you unlock different buildings from their respective chains. If you click on one, you should see what they can eventually unlock for you to build.
