It looks similar (like a settlers-game) but the original was pretty obscure. It's surprising to see it resurface as a franchise.

My goodness. Very well spotted there. it does indeed look like there is a link. I suspect the devs would have brought it to our attention if it was linked in some way but yes, there is quite a bit of resemblence there isn't there.
