The GBC website says that the Fix command in GBC heals your entire party instantly. Does this mean that it takes no time within the games to heal? That actually has me a little concerned that it would make the games much too easy as restrictions on resting were always meant to be a major part of the challenge. Some players might like this, but I would prefer to play according to the "spirit" of the designers' intentions (i.e. I have no problem adding a Fix command to Pool of Radiance, which is a major convenience that doesn't change game balance, but healing with no time passing sounds like a major unbalancing change).

Am I correct about the Fix command in GBC (I've never used the current version before)? If so, is instant healing optional?

I'd like to use GBC, as it sounds like it has many useful features, but if it makes the games too easy without the player being able to choose, I wouldn't want that.

Hi Arthur:
I tested this out yesterday.

*Using the Encamp/Fix from the GBC HUD does NOT take game time.

*Usng the Restore Spells (after Storing them) for all magic users from the GBC HUD does NOT take game time.

*Using the FIX command from the normal Encamp menu DOES take up game time, as normal (as much as it takes for healers to cast and relearn Heal Light Wounds).

The answer: YES, using the Encamp/Fix (or Restore Spells) from GBC is entirely optional. So is the game's own Fix. You can encamp and cast, heal, memorize in actual gametime as you choose.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I'm concerned that some of GBC's features may make the game too unchallenging, but it seems GBC lets you play how you want.

I like it most for the map functions (you can make your own notes at certain locations, and save maps, etc.) and the access to Journal entries the most (except for when the journal entry is actual an image, then you need to look at the PDF.) But yes, you can use as much or as little of the GBC features as you like.

Happy Gaming. I'm back to fighting in the Beholder's cave below Mulmaster in Pools of Darkness. LOL.
