I browse the forums for hints, cheats, etc and found this thread:

I have heard little to no sound in Pool of Radiance. When a creature dies, I hear a short static burst. The thread states there was music during the intro so I thought I would try. One of the credit screens lists the version as 1.3 so I edited DosBox as per the thread and my pool.cfg file. When I start the game, I get no intro music. Does version 1.3 have music?

v1.3 (which is the GoG version) has no music regardless of Tandy settings. There should be PC Speaker sounds in combat still I think. Or Tandy, if you turn that on in DOSBOX and configure pool.cfg to tandy.
