Any chance we can get the Dragon Lance gold box games now?
I sure hope so. They were my favourite Gold Box games and War of the Lance is a great wargame with some truly Interesting features. That's also a favourite. :)
There's no date or anything, but they're pretty much confirmed: http://venturebeat.com/2015/08/20/gog-on-dragonlance-gold-box-games-theyre-coming/

That is fantastic news! :D
Just waiting for DragonStrike to come... Dark Queen of Krynn also sounds pretty cool for what I have heard.
The Dragonlance games were pretty difficult, with the draconians.. Gotta really watch out for the ones that explode when they die. Get a few of those too close up you got a wipe.
Dragonlance games were better than the Pools games.
More choices in character classes and races.
More unique enemies.
More unique items.
More hard-core: Elves stay Dead, and Disintegrated characters are Gone for good.

The Draconians I really liked to hate as enemies.
They were really tough, as in really tough in that times toughness scale but all of them had one hard side and manageable other sides. You really have to treat every battle with them in a special tactical way a lot more than against other enemies.
And some of them refuse to die harder than trolls. That's actually a lot more fun than it sounds because it spice up the battle/s greatly.
Draconians are great enemies to fight against in RPGs with old school difficulty if you ask me. :)

I actually liked Death Knights of Krynn better. In Dark Queen they put more emphasis on mouse control and took severeal keybord shortcuts away. Because of that I find the Dark Queen's interface to be more clunky.
Elves were non-resurrectable in the FR games as well, but probably less noticed because level limits mean the race isn't used as often (although F/MU/T does stay useful throughout and might be a better choice than F/T of the other races).

Disintegrate seems to have changed its behaviour regularly between games; e.g., I noticed that the Disintegrate beam from Beholders in Curse actually gets characters Gone, whereas on the other hand Red Mages in Pools (pretty sure this is the only time in the FR GB games where an enemy actually has the spell) simply kill the character (and destroy all their gear).

I prefer Death Knights' interface as well; although the fact that Dark Queen has some definite improvements (for instance integrating movement on the 3D and combat map screens instead of having them be modal through the "Move" command) the biggest thing I find is that DQ (FRUA, too, actually) strongly resists being sped up significantly (while the other 8 Gold Box games become much, much faster at the high speed settings, DQ/FRUA don't speed up nearly as much, nor does an increase in CPU speed or Dosbox cycles seem to have as strong an effect (I get the feeling it must use a different kind of timing loops to modulate speed?)

They can be Resurrected in the FR games, but they can't be Raised.
Behavior of Disintegrate spells and the Beholder's disintegrate ray appears to be disparate in at least Secret of the Silver Blades and Pools of Darkness--it seems the spell kills you and destroys your items, whereas the beholder attack destroys you forever. This is the case in FRUA as well.

Can anyone confirm in the Krynn games?

By and large, from what I can tell, they don't seem to change these things so much from Krynn to FR as from game to game--in short, they're updating the engine, not consciously creating separate worlds with regards to stuff like resurrection.

I recall losing a Paladin permanently from a Beholder ray first time I played Dark Queen of Krynn.
In Pools of Darkness my Cleric lost all items forever in Mulmaster, but not his life. I think it was from a spell.
Had no idea the spell and the ray had different properties; that makes things more complicated.

I can confirm Beholders Gone you in DQK...had it happen a few times. Just disintegrated a character with a spell...and yes, he's dead and all his items are gone.

So it looks like a spell/beholder ray distinction.

On the other hand, I loaded up Death Knights...and disintegration kills in that game, without destroying any items.

Also looking forward to the best draconic aerial combat sim of all time. And the traditional fantasy strategic wargame War of the Lance.

The other three action games built on the first Dragonlance adventures might simply not be worth my time anymore, truth be told.
