Hello,

I played CotAB a few years ago on my Macbook Pro. I played pretty far, but stopped for some reason and wanted to pick up where I left. However, there were no savegames left, only the default savegame and characters. I did not delete and reinstall the game, it was just left inactive on my Macbook.

Did anyone else have this problem? I assume it might be due to some Mac OS update or GOG Galaxy update. I checked the savegame location and it does only contain the default stuff, not my old things. :(

Any idea or do I have to conside them lost?

Regards

The saves should be located inside the "SAVE" folder inside the app itself (in the current version it's ~/Curse of the Azure Bonds/Contents/Resources/game/SAVE), so it does seem odd that they are now missing.

I know there was an update a while back to add cloud saves for GOG Galaxy, but I think that was for windows only and not mac (I can't say for sure because I don't use Galaxy), so that shouldn't have changed the save location for the game.

However, if the mac version of Galaxy does support cloud saves, and if you're using Galaxy, that could be the origin of the problem (perhaps the game auto-updated and either moved your saves to a cloud save directory, or worse yet replaced the old save directory with a default save directory). In this case, I would contact GOG Support as they would have full information on exactly what Galaxy did to the saves.

EDIT: According to this website, Curse of the Azure Bonds does support Galaxy cloud saves on Mac.

A second possibility is that the app used to save the games in a different location when you originally played it a few years ago.

Originally, most of GOG's DOS games on mac used Boxer to run them instead of DOSBox. However, with the release of MacOS Catalina GOG also recently updated its DOS games to run in DOSBox instead (because the version of Boxer which GOG used doesn't run under Catalina anymore).

I'm not sure if Curse of the Azure Bonds used to run in Boxer or not, but if it did, Boxer used to put its save games here:
~/Library/Application Support/Boxer/Gamebox States/
so you could try looking there for your save games.
A third possibility I just thought of:

Again, under Boxer, the game structure inside the app used to be different too. In that case, the SAVE folder might be located at something like:
~/Curse of the Azure Bonds/contents/resources/game/<app name>/contents/resources/<app name>.boxer/C.harddisk/

Old Mac installer was using Boxer and the original saves are under $HOME/Library as you said. They will need to be copied/moved to the new location inside the current DOSBox bundled version as you mentioned in post #2.

01kipper: ~/Curse of the Azure Bonds/contents/resources/game/<app name>/contents/resources/<app name>.boxer/C.harddisk/
That would most likely be /Applications and not $HOME at the start of the path, but Boxer has them shadow written under ~/Library as in post #3 and not in the above location.

Thanks a lot, I will have a look there :) I'd be so happy if I found the old savegames.
I got them back! Thank you so much, I am so very happy right now. :D Now I can work on my dream to play through all those games with the same party! Thanks a BIG lot!
