In Pool of Radiance, each character's ability scores appear once each in that character's save file. (Yes, even in saved games, each character is stored in separate files.)

In Pool of Darkness, however, each ability score is stored twice. I find it interesting that it changed at some point during the engine's history. From my experience with similar games, I am guessing that one copy of each ability score is the current value and the other is the normal value. (As a test, casting Enlarge, saving and then examining the save should reveal which value is the current strength.)

(Also, does anyone know what method the games use for rolling stats?)
FRUA, which had much of the same code as Pools of Darkness as far as we were able to determine, would roll 9d6 and keep the 3 highest. It does keep current and original data; a discrepancy is marked by an asterisk.
