My rogue is only 2nd level, and picking doesn't seem to work. I don't have Knock as a spell. My only option is bash. I have a couple of fighters with 18(xx) strength. I've bashed the front door at least 50 times, and nothing. Is there a trick or something to getting it open? Is the back door more susceptible to bash?

Why not go somewhere else in the meantime, and return when you get a library card (AKA Knock Knock scroll)?

Or try the Enlarge spell. Maybe the doors become bashable with STR 19+. I don't remember.

I know this is late, but the prior response was right. Wait to handle the library until you have knock as a spell.

I've never been able to get in with a strength below 18(90) by bashing. It's wizard-locked--you need a character with very high strength or a Knock spell.

The only thing I'd add is, make sure you have some magic weapons to use before leaving. ;)
