Sooo... I enjoyed Flatout helluvalot, is there any chance of getting Flatout 2 on GOG, seeing as it's even sold by the same publisher? (In before "Flatout 2 is not a good old game" rant)
And while we're at it: How does Flatout 2 compare to the original, besides obvious things like graphics?

In Flatout 2 there are different classes of cars/races which mixes up the gameplay nicely. And you can keep several cars in your garage, you don't have to sell when you buy a new one.
What I didn't like is what they did with the ragdoll trick bonus events (sorry, my terminology is a little rusty, it's been a while). You can't drive YOUR cars in them, instead you have to choose from a couple of different rocket cars which behave nothing like the ones you actually drive. Some of the events miss the point of simple fun by being too complex or tedious and then there's also the controlling of the ragdoll and The Nudge, which feels like a pointless and unrealistic (:D, :P and all that) addition.
But that's only a small part of the game, I just remember missing the bonus events of Flatout 1. Apart from that Flatout 2 is a great game, so great in fact that I'll be buying Flatout Ultimate Carnage soon.

Flatout 2 basically takes Flatout 1 and improves on many little things.
Aside from graphics, the game feels as a much faster racer. larger collisions and destructible environs. theres more to upgrading the cars (but still, simple linear upgrades, rather decisions on different upgrades as with the first.). Better music (but still not to my personal taste). yaddayadda.
I have to agree with Raina on some of those annoying minigames/bonustrick-events. A few are fun, but others are plain fustrating.
Worth hunting down a demo from the web if you have yet to do so.
Thanks the both of you, it's exactly what I wanted to know.
Now to hope that we can get Flatout 2 on GOG. I'm going to hunt down the demo now.
Flatout 2 would be a good addition, you can actually find it for pretty cheap for Xbox 360 as well. In general I'd have to say that I enjoyed the first one better, Flatout 2 while fun seemed to be more of a "racer" rather than a Destruction Derby-esque game.

I'd say Flatout presents itself more like a Rally game, just one where you get to race with opponents, the car damage is fairly realistic so avoiding collisions is often smart, or you will end up busting up your steering, and the tracks would not look out of place in a Rally game, they have this "cloused off circuit" look to them.
Flatout2 is much more an arcady destruction derby, cars can take much more damage before breaking down, and they don't really suffer any problems untill they reach zero health, it's a game that invites you to crash through as much stuff as you possibly can, and the tracks feel less cloused off somehow, it allmost feels like you are doing illegal street racing in FO2.
The two games are supricingly different in feel, with FO1 feeling more serious and trying to be more realistic, and FO2 feeling much more action oriented, much more "who needs realism, lets just break stuff with a smile!", and they are both very fun in different ways, FO1 requires a little tactics in your driving, trying to balance getting ahead without breaking your car, whereas FO2 is for when you just want to race around and destroy things.
Though i agree that some of the "stunt" events in both of them are a bit tedious, it's seems a bit tacked on, and some of them are just neigh impossible to get through.. they are the only bad part of the games really.
I agree with Grobut, that's pretty much it. Have you ever played Burnout before? That's what Flatout 2 reminds of. It's more of a fast paced, rocket around, smash things up racer. I don't know that it necessarily improved on Flatout 1, but it changed a lot of things. If you're looking for another tough, down and dirty sort of rally/derby game like Flatout, you're not quite going to find it with Flatout 2, what you will find though is crazy speed, great graphics, awesome post processing FX, and some fun minigames. I wouldn't pay out the nose for it, but if you find it somewhere at a decent price, I would go for it...especially if GOG had it *nudge nudge* (heads over to the GOG wishlist).
Agreed - I'd like to see Flatout 2 on here also. My kids love it (and so do I).
From what I understand from various forum posts on the internet. Flatout: Ultimate carnage is basically 2 with improvements. So it might be worth getting that instead of 2.
It's a good game, but not without fault. The way some of your competitor's performance is clearly vastly different - both to their advantage and detriment - to what you can expect from the same cars does wear a bit thin. The upgrades you can buy achieve no great performance boost either.
It's also worth noting that the retail version doesn't require the DVD or any DRM rubbish.
If GOG aren't going to release it any time soon then you might want to look at Ultimate Carnage instead. It's meant to be pretty much exactly the same game, but with more polish. Both are incredibly cheap, but I can't vouch for the latter's gameplay.
The biggest issue I had with FO2, was that you couldn't drive off the track far before being reset. In FO1, you could go off track and do some a amazing stunts with your friends and record them. Had a blast doing this and some of my vidoes are on google. Just Google my name and check the vids.
Oh man, so lang time and to progress here. I would love to see more action racing games like FlatOut. GOG?

Check out GamersGate. They have it DRM free. :)

Having never used GamersGate I perused their FAQ to see how their system works. As it stands, the game itself may have no form of DRM, but GG itself is the DRM as you can only install directly from their site. At least the way they put it it sounds like you don't get an independent installation file. In that case, if you want a completely DRM-free game that's a big no-no.

I'd be surprised if Flatout 2 didn't show up on GoG sooner or later.

Having used GG precisely for FlatOut 2, I can tell you the game is drm free. :p

Know what... it actually works the same way as GOG's downloader. ;)
