I'm led to believe the Devs have ignored the arrow keys for movement and locked you into the idiocy of WASD?

I want to buy this game but if the arrow keys can't be mapped to movement then that's a lost sale immediately.

Why do Devs have this idiotic mentality that WASD is the only set of keys for movement? This issue is been going on for years and it looks like another Dev has ignored remapping movement keys, it's shocking how this can happen really!

Will this issue be addressed?

Belated reply, but I doubt that it will considering Cyan did exactly the same thing in Myst (2021) and Obduction (2016). It used to be possible to do the Unreal Engine trick of editing input.ini in Notepad to change them (for games that lack a menu setting), but Cyan someone broke the whole Unreal Engine's ability to do that in the process of adding VR to Obduction, and every game released since (Myst & Firmament) seems to be have similar deliberately broken input.ini files. It's an intentional bad design choice and I won't be buying this or any of their future games either for the same reason until they fix it.
Blame that guy long ago that made WASD a thing and then the industry for creating a mess of it :)

For UE, its really easy to bind the arrow keys and WASD both at the same time. I have no idea why they don't. But, its the same thing with Playstation controller. There's long been a way for native game support of it but many devs think it can't be done lol.

Its crazy but that's life. Life is nuts.
Yeah, looks like another game and Dev scratched of my list then!

Not resorting to 3rd party workarounds like AutoHotkey or similar to add key bindings that should be built-in to modern games automatically!!

not sure it will make a difference to you, but when I play I only use one key for movement (W - forward), because the mouse provides the directional piece. the game also requires manipulation of a device ('adjunct") using the TAB, Q and E keys and those can't be remapped either. so I have three left fingers on the Q-W-E keys and the mouse in my right hand....
A controller would work better and works great here but I understand some people can't or won't use them.

A lot of games do this. Its not going away until its automatic by the tools.
This idiocy is because we get watered down console ports that were not optimised for PC Hardware and then shoe horned into Unity or Unreal and rushed out the door as fast as possible to make more money for the next console port mess :)

That's not true at all. Firmament doesn't even have completed consolse versions and its been 5 months and still nothing. They released on PC first. They're optimizing for console after PC.

If you really want to believe its that way that you suggest then go for it.

I was referring to the reason WHY we have the WASD idiocy, it's because of console ports and not that Firmament itself WAS a console port!!

So 6 patches later (that's if the GOG version is updated to the same as the Steam version) and still no key rebinding!

It was mentioned by one of the Devs back in April on the Steam forum that Cyan were aware of the keybinding issue, especially for non QWERTY keyboards, but have so far ignored it and Patch 6 was released over a year ago!!
