Hi! I'm running into some serious framerate issues on my running this game on my Macbook Air. The game settings screen won't let me lower the resolution lower than 1280x720, so I was wondering if anyone knew where the settings configuration file was stored, so I could force it even lower.

If you have any other performance tips, that would be appreciated as well. I'm surprised I'm having trouble. Yes, this is a Macbook Air, but it's also the latest model with fully maxed out specs, and Fez doesn't seem like something that should be all that intensive...

Thanks!

There is no native Port for Mac now so you must use some wrapper/virtualmachine. Which solution do you use?( iguess it is not Bootcamp).

Wine should be fine.

The Macbook Air uses an Intel HD chip for Graphics(or is there another solution built in?. Those things are weak compared to a real graphicssolution. So performance will be bad because it is no native port and yes it doesnt look like it but the way this game is programmed it is slow. It could have been using Polygons and such but it doesn't. And i love the approach they are using.

It uses Voxels, or how Renaud is calling it - Trixels. Every Pixel is beeing calculated. The Game runs natively in 1280x720 - all other resolutions are just interpolated.

For more Information about that and why the performance is like it is:

Example of other Voxel Engines:

Some Games like Commanche and the Delta Force Games used that tech. too. It is all very demanding on CPU and less on GPU but still.

You could use Boot Camp to get a better performance but that requires you to actually install Windows on your Macbook Air.
Sorry, I should have specified: I'm already using bootcamp.

Thanks for the link, that's quite interesting. I guess lowering the resolution wouldn't do much. Oh well...

Nope it wouldnt do much. Iam running the game also on a Intel Atom Dualcore with 1,7 GHz(yours has 1.8 GHz right?) and Nvidia Ion. Performance it is ok but stutters here and there. Still playable though. I guess you have the same performance. The only way would be overclocking or live with the slowdowns/ stutter - or run it on another device.

My cpu is a Dual Core i7 with 2ghz. The graphics card is only an Intel HD Graphics 4000, but if it's mostly cpu intensive, I really wish I was getting a better framerate. I don't have any other computers with me at college.

Oh well though, it looks like I'm stuck with it. Thank you. :)
I just read the Intel chipsets aren't supported: https://getsatisfaction.com/polytron/topics/game_crashes_after_loading_screen_fezgame_stopped_working#reply_11942883
Yup, Intel Integrated Graphics are not supported sadly. You need an *actual* GPU ;)

It is possible to Force a custom resolution.
I read it here:
https://getsatisfaction.com/polytron/topics/how_change_the_resolution_with_out_be_in_the_game

"I'm figuring out a better way to detect & prevent this, but in the meantime :

You can force a resolution in the "Settings" file that should be in the C:\Users\[YourUser]\AppData\Roaming\FEZ\ directory.
It doesn't have an extension, but it's a text file.

Let me know if that works out. "

Might try that.
Thanks.

Lowering the resolution actually DOES make the game run a LOT more smoothly, but it stops filling up the entire screen as a result. Maybe they'll implement it more properly in the future? I'm loving the game either way, I just really wish I could make it smoother.
The custom resolution only works for me if I go lower than my desktop resolution which I've set at the same size as the default size (the largest my old monitor can go). In windowed or full screen mode at the default settings the game is not actually to scale.

For me this is only being solved in windowed mode. Hope it's not true for everyone.
Fez is actually the only game that I have issues with on my laptop! I always have to play it in windowed mode. Kinda sucks, but the game is still fun.
