On the main map, it is apparently not possible to navigate with the keyboard. You can use the Q/E keys to move the view to points of interest, but unlike with the controller's equivalent functions, the mouse pointer doesn't warp to where you're looking, and the area's menu is only available if the mouse pointer is on top of the dot. This is one, fairly major, way that the mouse is also required. There may be more, but for now, I'll just play using a controller. I was happy that this game worked on my crappy tablet, which I can use on the bus, but since neither the touchscreen nor the touchpad work on Linux, I have to use a real mouse, which is not very convenient on the bus, to say the least.
They really did have consoles heavily in mind when making this, and I don't know if they will ever make it fully mouse-friendly. I wasn't really able to navigate job changes in particular, and in battle I often had to think of my mouse+keyboard as being one-to-one mapped to gamepad functions rather than an intelligent interface in and of themselves. So after half an hour I just plugged in my controller and restarted the game.

I understand that it would take weeks or months to make it work the way that I want it to, so I can't fault them too much, but it's still something on my wish list. It reminds me of Cosmic Star Heroine, where you also have to pretend that your keyboard is emulating a gamepad to understand it, and ultimately you're best off plugging in a controller.

I would be less inclined to forgive them if they were 100 people rather than two people and a dozen or so free-lance contracts. It is what it is.
This was resolved ages ago. I'm posting here because PCGamingWiki links to this as a source for listing this flaw. The game is actually 100% keyboard accessible. You can pan map, etc, with the arrow keys. They also did make it so that Q/E does refocus the map.

Ages ago? It's still not fixed. And the last update relating to this apparently was 14 May, 2.5 months ago, not exactly "ages" (unless you're a toddler, given that perceived time passage is inversely related to age). While the Q/E keys do now move focus to the selected node, it is not possible to actually see what node is selected, because the name of th enode is not highlighted as it is when using the controller. The best you can do is an approximate guess based on the pop-up and map viewport.

In any case, I no longer care. I just play with a controller, exclusively, even now that I have switched to my laptop because the tablet is pretty much unusably broken. Cheaply made piece of crap.

You also can use the arrow keys to move the cursor around. You can also use a modifier+arrow keys to pan the map. But if you move the cursor around and say "move here", it's just like using mouse or controller. 100% keyboard accessibility. Sorry about "ages", but I initially played the game way back on original release and had few issues playing the game entirely keyboard. they've only made it better since then.
