Magmarock: Fear has this annoying bug where at any time the game’s framerate will get worse and worse until you restart it. However there is a fix for it.

https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/789-directinput-fps-fix/

For legal reasons the fix can’t be included with the game’s installer. Hopeful this will change in the future, since it’s virtually unplayable without it.
This fix worked for me, June 2024. Windows 11, Ryzen 7, Asus Vivobook. (Using a Logitech HID keyboard and LG monitor 60Hz) The link in this thread is the only one on GOG I found to be actually working and allow the download.

Thanks for this, BTW. Frames plummeted at exactly ten minutes every game until I extracted this to the correct folder, lol. I know for a fact it doesn't work if you do it wrong.
I'll also add an additional fix: Changing the FOV in both F.E.A.R. 1, the Expansions and 2 to something more wider given the narrow default widescreen Field of View.
-Create a file called "Autoexec.cfg"
-Add in the lines "FovYWidescreen" and "XX.00" for F.E.A.R. 1 and "FOVY" and "XX" for 2.
-Now, the recommended widescreen FOV is either 75.00 (for something close to a horizontal 90) or 80.00 (if you want something more akin to 100). This is because the games use vertical FOV and by default, the widescreen FOV is something akin to a 55 or 60. So in a game where reflexes are very much required, a larger FOV will do wonders.

Now, turn off the light. Crank the volume up. Enjoy F.E.A.R..
