This is a niche case, but I installed the GOG version onto the steam deck and a window briefly pops up and closes. The game doesn't launch. I've heard it works fine on the steam version, so what makes the GOG version different?

(Note: I installed the game like I have with all GOG games on steam deck using the off-line installer and adding as a non-steam game, forcing proton and install that way, then charge target to the game's .exe).

(Note2: I installed the game on a Windows 11 PC and it runs without issue, as expected. However I do notice the game launches a brief window, closes, then launches a new window with the game itself and runs. Steam deck seems to only launch that brief auto-closing window, but doesn't capture/launch that 2nd window being the game. Just some observations. Not sure what to do.)
Sorry to hear about this issue. This is a bit of an unusual setup and unfortunately nothing comes to mind in terms of a cause or a solution.
Yeah, can't figure it out either. I think maybe it's GOG Galaxy integration causing some hiccup (I don't use GOG Galaxy, I don't need launcher for my games). Tried deleting the galaxy.dll but the game fails to launch, even on Windows.

But, I installed the Linux version, so thank you for providing that as an option :), and that launched perfectly on the steam deck. But it won't recognize the controller! Not sure why. I have to set the steam deck to emulate a mouse and keyboard control scheme, so at least it's working that way lol
