So I just bought Far Cry, and have never played it. Should I play it first without any mods? Or are there some "standard" mods to use before even playing it?

And then what are some of the expansions/mods I should get after playing the original?

I just finished playing through it without mods and absolutely loved it. I haven't tried any mods yet, so I can't tell you much about them. Check out this thread, though: http://www.gog.com/en/forum/far_cry/far_cry_mods/page1

I would recommend using Garcy's FCAM 1.89 mod. It patches the leftover bugs from the 1.4 official patch, greatly improves the graphics and AI, and re-balances weaponry.

It doesn't make the game harder or easier, just more fun. Get it.

Agreed. The mod doesn't really change the game much. It just improves it in any way possible.

GOG should provide it here as a bonus feature, since it basically is a must have. :)
