Seriously, I got so far into the game, and I still can't seem to find my save files. The "Profile" folder doesn't feature a single thing except for a text file with the name "Default", and if I delete it the game still has save files.

Honestly this wouldn't be a problem if I just wanted to play through the game, but I played the first 10 missions and now I have installed FCAM which... hey, it doesn't detect any of my Save Files, even if it detects my Profiles. Seriously, WTF

Come on, we need more information than this. What operating system are you using and where have you installed the game to? I ask this because UAC and DEP can cause issues with save game location (it is due to the security measures that Microsoft put in place to protect system folders).

For me, I install games into my own Games folder on the root of C. So my save games are located here:

C:\Games\Far Cry\Profiles\player\Korell\savegames\

Obviously the path will vary based on your profile name in the game, but in that folder I can see all of the checkpoint saves that the game has made.

If you have installed into Program Files (I really don't recommend this on Vista and 7) then you may need to go looking inside your Users folder, possibly one of the below locations:

C:\Users\<name>\Documents\
C:\Users\<name>\Documents\My Games\
C:\Users\<name>\AppData\Roaming\

I'm running Windows 7, the game installed in Program Files (x86)/GOG.COM

There's no Far Cry folder in Roaming, nor in Documents, nor in My Games (only Far Cry 2 folder). And when I go to the Gog.com folder, into the Far Cry folder, the "Profiles" folder doesn't really show anything except for a "Defaults" folder, which has language folders inside, a "player" folder, which has a "Default" folder inside which doesn't show anything, a "server" folder, and finally a text document titled "player_profiles_go_here_placeholder.txt", which doesn't hold anything inside. I'll see if something happens if I delete it, hope this was enough information.

Well as you have the game installed into Program Files, try running the game as administrator - even if your default login is an admin account, still do this by right-clicking on GOG's Far Cry link from the Start menu and choosing "Run As Administrator". Then in game create a new profile, play a little, get a save, quit out and see if any changes have been made to the Profiles folder within the game.

If this works then it suggests that it is UAC and DEP from Windows 7 causing your issue, so unless you want to run as administrator every time I'd re-install it into a non-protected folder. That said, though, I'd recommend installing all games to your own games folder anyway.

No worries, glad I was able to help. So, I guess the lesson here is to not use Program Files for games so as to prevent this in the future. :)

You'll find that the GOG forums are full of helpful people. Seriously, it has to be the best community I've known which I can only put down to the fact that what GOG are doing with their whole DRM free, games for the gamers approach, is such a great thing. There is also the fact that GOG support is a little bit slow so a lot of the forums have developed into a sort of community support platform.

For future reference, the files you were looking for should be in %LocalAppData%\VirtualStore.

Gotta love these 'default' locations! My Win7x64 saves are in:

C:\Users\Mike\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Far Cry\Profiles\player\default\savegames\checkpoint_Carrier_Carrier_1.sav

Wouldn't have had a prayer of finding them if it wasn't for the last poster's VirtualStore tip. To the OP, you should see them in the main menu in-game, after you click on the right side of the screen, ie the "Load Checkpoint" side. There are around 4-8 checkpoints per level--click the level name on the left, and its checkpoints show up on the right.

That's because you installed into Program Files on a Vista/Win7 machine. UAC and DEP interfere when you do this which is why your saves get stored elsewhere (to protect the Program Files folder from being altered after the installation).

For me, I install my games to C:\Games\ and as such my save files are located inside the game folder:

C:\Games\Far Cry\Profiles\player\Korell\savegames
