Hello,

For more comfort, I'd like to play Far Cry 2 in my mother tongue but there is no language options in-game. At least, subtitles in my language would be enough.

However, this game seems designed to offer several language options. In the game directories, you can find the languages files, but they are unusable (maybe useless?).

So, I tried to change the language by modifying the "FC2Init.ini" file (I just changed "English" into "French"), and it worked more or less : only the written things were translated (game menu, loading screens...), but audio dialogs and the subtitles disappeared.

I put back the game into "English", but is there a reliable way to change the langage of the game without having issues?

Try replacing english files with french files - copy the content from "fr" folder to "us" folder (don't forget to make a backup of us folder before).

Hello,

After some trials-and-errors by using your method, it changes nothing. I replaced the english "Game Update" files by the french one in the US folder (and also the UK folder), but the game is still entirely in english, like before.

Is this method supposed to work? Am I doing something wrong?

It seems we can use the languages files to change the language in-game, but how?

And if it's finally impossible, could someone confirm this?

I'm looking for a french translation patch since yesterday, but I find nothing, except 1 or 2 websites that do not seem trustworthy (and I don't want to take any risk by downloading their patches. I don't even know if they work).

No, it doesn't work this way, these are the wrong files. triock was only guessing.

You can't get French audio, because these files are missing in GOG's version. Anyway, it's possible to run the game in English with French text and subtitles.

1. Edit FC2Init.ini in the "bin" subfolder, like you did
Set:
language=French

2. Rename these files in the following subfolders:
\Data_Win32\sound_english.dat => sound_french.dat
\Data_Win32\sound_english.fat => sound_french.fat

\Data_Win32\worlds\worlds_english.dat => worlds_french.dat
\Data_Win32\worlds\worlds_english.fat => worlds_french.fat

Done.

Hi DeMignon,

Thanks a lot, your method works.

French subtitles, menus and quest log are enough. Now, it will be really more comfortable to play the game.

Bye.
how do I get it to be in English and not German?

This is not exactly correct. You have to select the language when downloading the game from the website.
