The rebellion level takes place mostly outdoors and offers a variety of options to achieve the goal (get to the archives). I'd like to hear other opinions and walkthroughs.

This is how I do it:
Indoors: AG36 and shotgun. When I reach the control (?) room with the map and the battle outside starts, I wait on the wall opposite to the door until I can't hear anything anymore, but often at least one big boy opens the door and I kill it with the AG36. If no fights can be heard anymore, I sneak out, check if there is something at the bottom of the base, then on the wall. After that I snipe the guys in the towers. Then I go for the trigens outside spotted with the binoculars using the mortar (or was it a machine gun) mounted on the wall. After that, I restock my supplies from the fallen mercs in the base and in the towers and from the garages.

Then the path outside to the top of the hill, and whiping out the trigen near the top. Using the binoculars, I can see some big boys near the beach and the path blocked by debris at the horizon.

I don't like using the 4WD vehicle as such big target with some big boys launching rockets in the path, so I use the hang glider, go slightly to the left over the broken bridge and attack the two mercs there and continue flying to the island with the watchtower and kill the trigen there. Then it's time for resupplying.

Using the flying fox, I get back to the mainland where I eliminate remaining mercs (if necessary) and take the 4WD and move with slow speed along the road, using the mounted MG when spotting enemies. At the place where the land mass left from the road widens, I stop and scout the environment for enemies. Going more to the left allows to already see a battle at a big truck between mercs (and techs) and trigens. Going downhill with the 4WD at slow speed, I shoot at the big boy (or was it more than one?) and retreat until he falls.

Now comes the creative part: At the big truck, going uphill and then near the cliff and killing two trigens eventually leads you to a ridge from which you can see a bridge and a watchtower on the level where mercs battle trigens. If you want to watch it, this can take something like 15 minutes. Don't go too far to the left or into the open, else the guy on the MG and the rocket man in the watchtower will attack you. If you sneak downhill on the right, a helicopter will appear. Run back uphill to the tree with the fork and hide behind it until you can take out the helicopter with a rocket. If you go back to the ridge path and move more left/uphill on it, you can scout more enemies from the final position. You should also use the opportunity to look for enemies in the areas which the road the big truck stands on (where you left the road) passes.

Now going the ridgepath downhill, check for a trigen which maybe has come near the path. After killing it, stay left and you get into another path into the mountains. There will be another trigens, seem like it's possible that it even jumps on you from the hills. There are good scouting opportunities from the left and right. On the right, you will launch a battle by finding the enemies with your binoculars. If you continue far enough into the mountain, you can also see a lagoon with a 4WD and 2 mercs. Also find the trigens to let them fight each other. Now return to the big truck.

The shortcut: Go into the water and swim along the island. You can swim into the valley below the bridge and then make landfall (if you haven't killed the heli, it will attack you here). I have seen a transport helicopter picking up elite mercs here and flying away. You are directly in front of the archives.

Along the road: Get the 4WD near and move slowly along the road, search for enemies. If you e.g. spot a big boy, use the mounted MG. Sometimes it's even possible that everybody got killed. The last I played this (with the GOG version), I had the impression that there are less enemies here than in the boxed version without patches (I play on Realistic difficulty).

Continue on the road and stop _after_ the place where there is no rock on the left (if you stop at the gap, you or the 4WD will likely be hit by a rocket). Scout with the binoculars to the ruins, there are at least two mercs and a solder trigen which don't attack each other. I usually hit their 4WD with a grenade from my 4WD's grenade launcher and then finish the mercs with sniping or MG fire. The solder trigen's position gets spotted with the binocular and some MG bullets send to the position.

Be aware that there hasn't been yet a save since you arrived at the big truck. Sneak to the ruins, collect the ammo from the fallen mercs (you likely will appreciate it), go through the tunnel in the ruins. On the left will be a health kit. There are one or two mercs left on the road behind the ruins (it's the one which has been blocked by debris, just the other side). Afterwards go one level up, snipe enemies on the hills from a distance (one guy at a MG on the left, a sniper below the watchtower, if you have look spotting him also the rocket man in the watchtower) and use the mortar to wreak havoc to the mercs further along the road and also theirs 4WDs.

Go down the road. Save point. Be aware that your mortar fire hasn't necessary finished all guys, sometimes you can the remaining ones at the bottom of the cliff on the beach. Go back to your 4WD and drive to the 4WD in the lagoon (the one which you spotted earlier), killing remaining enemies. Feel free to get a brand new 4WD.

Drive along to the bottom of the watchtower. Save point. Get out and snipe the rocket guy in the tower if you haven't done that earlier. Go uphill and sneak near the tower, look for enemies behind the arc. There should be at least one guy shooting at you. Get supplies in the tower.

Cross the arc as bridge and sneak. There is likely one enemy on the plateau. The heli will attack you at the hang gliders if you haven't finished it earlier. You can hide behind the hang gliders. You likely can also continue further on the ridge (getting to the MG), but I haven't followed this path yet. I use the hang glider to fly around the mountain with another watchtower (over the sea) and land on the beach at its far end. Then I go uphill (sometimes a trigen awaits me here). On the top, stay away from the flying fox and kill the rocket man on the opposite side of the valley (if you haven't done it from a ridgepath position from earlier). Now feel free to also get rid of the merc at the end position of the flying fox. Get supplies from the watchtower.

You can use the flying fox or go the road downhill.

Flying fox: You land in a small valley. Going uphill leads you to the MG where you also find a health kid. Go back to the main valley and road, cross the bridge and scout the road, the watchtower, the next bridge and the woods. Sometimes, there is only one rocket trigen left, I even saw that gone after a reload. It's also possible that a merc or trigen gets trapped below the bridge. You can also use the hill before the watchtower bridge to scout the opposite side. Snipe the guy on top of the archives. At the bridge, you fill find plenty of ammo from fallen merc. You can also restock in the tower.

Follow the road. Sometimes I haven't seen any enemies here and went to the garages, restocked, and then into the archives. But I have also see a group of elite mercs with shields attacking me here. In that case, the rocket launcher comes in handy here.

Other observations, corrections or behaviors to get to the archives?
