I just installed this game and watched the (very long) intro cutscene and the got out on the streets and got shot at.

When I wake up again I lift myself up from the floor and then the game becomes completely unresponsive except for the ESC key, that still takes me to the journal and there I can use keyboard and mouse as usual.

The head animation of the guy in front of me is cycling and there is music, I am just unable to move or look around.

Tried ALL the keys on the keyboard and the mouse buttons, to no avail.

I am playing on Windows 8, with Nvidia GTX 770 updated to the last drivers and all the settings set to the max.

I also tried turning all the settings to the minimum, but the same thing happens.

I would also like to know if there is anyway to skip the intro scenes, as the problem arises before the first save and even F5 is blocked.

A few ideas:

1, Sometimes I have to restart my computer after installing a game or it won't work correctly.
2. Did you do an integrity check when installing? Something may have been corrupted when downloading the game. You might need to re-download and re-install.
3. You could download some save files and see if the game works from that point. (mainly to test and see if the problem is just at the beginning or a general problem).

Long shot, but have you been using another controller (like a gamepad) or is one presently plugged in? As the escape key is still working, perhaps the game is expecting to use another device for in-game controls. Also, if you are using a set of wireless mouse and keyboard, make sure those drivers are up to date and perhaps keep the configuration tool open while playing the game. I've had issues in the past where my logitech mouse and keyboard weren't functioning properly with some games unless I had this tool running.

I'm sure you won't like this suggestion but I think re-installing the game to a new directory may be in order just to be sure. Perhaps the game is loading a blank config file with no controls bound.

Just shooting in the dark, hopefully it will inspire you to try something that works.

(I believe the unskippable taxi sequence is about 12 minutes long, so you can safely leave the computer prepare some snacks and drinks)

All the worries about the controls not being mapped for various reasons don't subsist as I can control the look during the intro and walk, run, crouch, jump, shoot and reload during the first battle.

I checked the integrity and it was fine (no changes applied).

I have now rebooted the pc, will do one more try, while I prepare tea.

About the savegame, where could I find one at the beginning? I could only find 96 or 100% ones.

Problem solved.

The scene I was looking at was not supposed to be there as it was showing up after I was killed everytime outside the hotel while it is the one supposed to appear after I escape the hotel area and fall because of malaria.

I was tricked into thinking it was one of those "dead but not really" scenes that happen sometimes in modern games.
