Forgive me if this question has been asked and answered before.
I just got Far Cry from the sale over the weekend and started playing it today on Medium difficulty. There is a part early in the game where you have to steal a vehicle and there are some enemies around. I've noticed that if I hide in a tent during combat, the enemies know exactly where I am and will shoot me through the tent. Is this a glitch or is this game really that hard?

Its "normal" in that I think most people have it. But its not how it should really be. I think its fixable with the FCAM mod.

This is an unfortunate bug that shows itself in the latest official patched versions of the game, which is what you get from GOG. The good news, however, is that the GOG version is compatible with FCAM which not only fixes this bug but also gives a whole host of improvements to the game.
I have not seen this is as a bug at all. They just can hear your movement if you crawl and watch your detection barometer then they won't notice you. At least it worked this way on my far cry version

I don't know if it affects everyone but it is a known issue with the latest patches. Sometimes you can be inside a tent and still and yet the enemy can see you and shoot you through the tent material. But the unofficial FCAM mod fixes it as well as some community patch that was released (though I don't know where that is offhand).

They can hear you moving on wooden floor so this is maybe the reason but im not sure. It did not bother me at all and i have even played it through on realistic modus. But this was a true nightmare ^^.

It is a known issue. Five minutes on Google and already I've found 4 forums that mention the bug:

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1804254
http://www.allquests.com/question/3090017/Far-Cry-v-14.html
http://forums.3drealms.com/vb/showthread.php?t=22976
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17920994

Though you'll have to read them to find the references to the bug as not all of those forums are specifically about the issue. Basically, it was fine up to version 1.33 then when 1.4 was released in order to fix online gameplay it caused this problem in single player where enemies can see you through walls.

Also, see this from GOG's own forums:

http://www.gog.com/en/forum/far_cry/what_patch_and_how_about_64bit/post21

Read from that highlighted post onwards.

So, as you can see, a number of people do experience the issue but not everyone. I remember reading somewhere that it was suggested that on dying and reloading the AI gets 'super vision' which could in fact be the same bug, so if you don't die and don't reload you may never experience the issue. Don't know if this partiucular bit is true though.

I found an unofficial 1.41 patch that solved the issue, I think. Either that, or I'm just getting better at the game (at the eighth mission now). Thanks for the info, guys.

Yep, I believe that FCAM incorporates that very same patch. You got a link to where you got your patch from though, just for reference in case anyone just wants the patch instead of the full FCAM mod?

I'd use FCAM, but this is my first playthrough, so I want to keep it "vanilla." I'll keep it in mind for a second run though.

Here's the link to the patch: http://farcry.filefront.com/file/Unofficial_Patch_141;78338

Many thanks for that link. I've actually been holding out on FCAM myself as it is still very much work in progress, though the latest release is supposed to be very stable. Garcy, the creator, also created unofficial patch 1.42 as that was linked to on the page you provided, but from the looks of his patch it was very much leading up to his FCAM project anyway.

So, being as I'm holding out for FCAM 2.0 or final release or whatever happens, this 1.41 patch is just what I need for now. Just tested it out, plays fine, even with my existing saves. So, that patch has just given me my first play of Far Cry for nearly a year as it plays much better now. Managed to see my first Tri-Gens in the game too and can now see just how different they are to the Far Cry: Instincts game on Xbox. :)
Yep, the unofficial patch and FCAM used to be separate projects, but now they're integrated. I, too, have no interest in downloading a 1GB mod just to fix some leftover bugs, so I am glad the old unofficial patches are still available.
