Anyone else getting this?

The icons for the units I'm researching only shows the bottom half of the images.

Yep - that's a natural part of gameplay. As your research in these troops increases, the pictures will also complete :).

Go read the tables about Unit stats, having a look at Open / Closed formations, if you are new to this game.
