It's the only game in the world that taught me guns are bad, rabbits can be evil, if you're rude to strangers they might hurt you (I was young and had no concept of rudeness and its effects), and having unprotected sex with a prostitute can kill you, within days of each other.

hahaha!! that just makes me want to play it more.
Great, Tyler :) If we pester Brian Fargo enough he might re-release it like he did with A Bard's Tale. Last I heard he had plans for Wasteland 2, but he's been busy with mobile apps and such... I'm starting to think he forgot about us.

My memories of the game are kind of hazy, but I can tell you this: it was one of the brightest moments of my childhood and entire gaming career. The Fallout series, as good as it is, does not completely do justice to its spiritual predecessor.

Then again, it may be the nostalgia.

Well maybe some day then I can play it too.
What's funny though is that Fallout 3 is to me as Wasteland is to you.
It's one of those games where I think to myself "This is why I play video games. This is what we can do."

I hear you, and Fallout 3 is an excellent game in its own right, just like Fallout and Fallout 2. I don't mean to take away from those games, it's just when you had to use your imagination more gaming seemed to mean more.

Nowadays everything's represented in graphical depictions... Hopefully you get what I mean.

Added rep to everyone throughout the thread. I love talking about Wasteland lol.

Yeah I noticed the short bits of video games where it's like a text-based game, or just reading stuff like journals, I almost feel more involved for some reason. But I'm still fine with all different kinds of games, anyway. I hope to soon be able to wrap my head around Source SDK and put to work an idea I have.

It's nice to know a long-time fan of the series likes Fallout 3. I figured it was considered cool to not like it, similar to how the internet hates MW2 and XCOM.

And I like to add random rep when I'm reading posts. It can sometimes help me figure out if I've read the post or not, too :P

Talk to you later :D

Tyler62092: Does anyone know if there's a way to get the original Wasteland for a reasonable price, or if it's worth it anyway? I'd like to play the precursor to Fallout, but it's kind of rare, isn't it?
You can get a copy at http://www.abandonia.com/en/search_abandonia/wasteland. As far as I know, it's abandonware, so it's not illegal to download. There are a lot of similar post-apocalyptic games there for download, as well--they go way back.

Wasteland is also my favorite all-time PC game. I have fond memories of struggling through the sewers and trying to figure out how to get Vax to work.

Here is a good site for getting up to speed if you play the game: http://wasteland.wikia.com/wiki/Wasteland_Wiki.

And don't forget, when all else fails, burn that clip!

Thanks, I remember trying to get a few games from that website to work, but I couldn't figure it out.
I can try it later, I'm sure.

Getting the games to run properly can be a bit tricky, but Wasteland seems to be relatively OK, although I haven't played much of it. A lot of them require DOSBox.

Good luck!

You bet! And by the way, I've been playing the game for a while now, and it seems to work just fine. It sticks for a bit sometimes, but it always bounces back. It can mess with my PC (I'm running Win XP, and listening to music while playing is problematic and it seems to love killing my wireless), but it's nothing permanent or serious. I can't believe how much about this game I've forgotten.

One of the all time best good old games!

Good to know, for if I ever get it working with DOSBox. I might have more trouble since I'm using Vista.

I got Fallout 1 today, is there anything I should do to prepare myself for when I finally play it?
Like, mental preparation or something? haha

Yeah, call your friend and family to tell them they won't hear from you for the next three or four days ... ;)

And give my regards to Harold!
