Perhaps... turn-based combat is tough in an MMO unless you instance every fight, though. Basically, I want FoT exactly as it is, but on a better graphical engine with a nice map editor / scripter GUI
I would buy that in a heart-beat.
Oh, and blowing off steam is what cooking and cleaning are for ; )
I'm just the opposite. When I want to "blow of steam" I'm all for the multi. aspects. Whether is L4D, SW Battlefront II, Chess or TF 2 it's great to go in and hunt/kill/destroy the opposition.
However when I want to escape my world immersing myself in great single player games is my tonic of choice. For certain there won't be anyone else to take me out of my perceived realm with out of context speech, actions or behaviors.

I still want an MMO that uses the ATB system from Final Fantasy.

Would be great, after all "variety is the spice of life."
At least it didn't end up like Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel.

Or *shudder* Baldurs gate:Dark alliance :P

well maybe it's better than that abomination, but imo i've enjoyed tactics more than fallout 3

I've found F3 more related to Fallout than FT or FBoS. Just me, but I thought the Oblivion-in-disguise suited the Fallout title more than Tactics or Brotherhood of Steel due to the fact that it actually was a do-anything RPG, and not a strategy game or a crappy American console RPG.
However, that being said, I still think all of the games are pretty decent.

I need to play Fallout and Fallout 2 again first, then I'll play Fallout 3.
But I have other games to play (again) too ( /!\ TL ; DR /!\ ) :
... Oddworld series, Dungeon Keeper, Doom 2 & 3 (done Doom 1 recently), Quake 1 & 2, Heretic&Hexen, best custom Doom and Quake wads, Duke Nukem 3D, TIE Fighter & X-Wing, Carmageddon series, System Shock series, Deus Ex (!), Postal 2, Serious Sam series, Severance BoD, AvP2 (LAN), Tribes 1&2 (LAN), Vietcong, Painkiller, The Chronicles of Riddick, Mafia + CoLD, FEAR, ArmA, Bioshock (haven't played it yet), ... and some I forgot.
and also give a try to other games like Sacrifice, TRON 2.0, etc...
So I'll wait 1 or 2 years, and when the wine will be fine, I'll go down to the good'old'cave, after all the patches and mods releases and see if Fallout 3 is that bad :)
=> Don't wait for sequels, play your games and fake the surprise when a sequel is released, just like you do at christmas ! :)
NB : And if like Dungeon Keeper, it really needs a decent sequel, add to your project "Do Dungeon Keeper : Back To HeII" and see what you can do (ed : maybe it will take years, but it will be done).
I paid my money, played the game and had fun. I'm satisfied.
I loved the old ones too but I don't have analyze and compare those 3 Ad Nauseum.
It reminds me of people who were all up in arms after the LotR movies, that it was not like the books and all, who cares? Did you think it was a good movie or not?
Same for Fo3,
I loved the 2 first ones, and granted I didn't like the 3 as much, it doesn't make it a bad game...
Well, for me personally, Bethsoft lost it after Morrowind, which was - despite glaring horrible problems - one of the best RPGs ever. Oblivion, on the other hand, was one of the biggest letdowns in the history of computer gaming. You can say all you want, but F3 is just an adaptation of a new theme to the Oblivion mechanics, so it still suffers from most of its problems. I guess I don't need to go into detail here, it's been chewed on throughout the internet.
Well, I do enjoy 1st person perspective (comes from playing shooters, probably), so if F3 had inherited the good things from Morrowind it would probably have been a mind-blowing experience. As it stands, it's just a very shallow one, unsurprisingly. Bethesda went for shiny coating over a mouldy core with Oblivion, and they continued down that track with F3. A lot of that is probably owed to the marketing credo of bringing the game to consoles. Really, I couldn't care less. The dialogues and menu system are beyond horrible, as is the main story (just a tad better than Oblivions all time low).
I like the setting and looks, though I'm rather sure they could have done better (just take a loot at their older titles). Which is about it ...
I understand the people thought that switching to first person and ditching turn-based combat was a betrayal of the old format. For those who played Fallout for the tactical gameplay, that was a major slap in the face. I didn't feel that was the case at all, I loved Fallout for the atmosphere and relished the chance to see the wastes from something other than a limiting top down perspective, turn-based combat was fun in its own way, but I feel its becoming increasingly dated and was ruined for me by the Japanese who just can't seem to let it go.
Of course, not all of the hatred comes from loss of format. It comes from enmity towards Bethesda. Anger which existed well before the first screen shots of the game came out, just read the No Mutants Allowed forums. They considered Bethesda a "sell-out" for releasing a title that was console friendly. Now granted Oblivion was no where near as good as Morrowind, and had its share of flaws, but that's not what really pissed them off. It's schadenfreude born of PC user arrogance toward the console market, which, regardless of whether Fallout 3 was good, bad or middling was going to get it lambasted by the community. I thought Fallout 3 was a pretty good game, not as good as original Fallout, but it definitely kept me engaged and I was satisfied with the ending.
I like immersion in my games, and that's not something that Fallout 3 was able to acheive. Just my opinion, it's different for everyone. 'nuff said.
The no mutants allowed forums are not a place for the weak. Don't even go there if you plan on saying something like "I liked Fallout 3!" Because they will skin you alive and roast your organs for dinner...you know since you must be a subhuman for liking something that they don't.
I jest..a little ;)
