i also played fallout 3 and i can tell you that fallout 1 is a lot more lvl depending

i'm going to say this: if the endgame was okay difficult when you are only lvl 10 the game is way to easy. you just need to get some levels. as someone else said the lvl cap is 20 or 21 so you were only halfway there wearing poor armor

metal armor is very weak (i think even the leather armor has better stats). join the brotherhood and get yourself some power armor. since power armor boosts your strength it is very good for both melee and heavy guns

Level cap in these games isn't like level cap in current games. It wasn't expected or necessary to go that high. I've played it through a couple of times and I don't think I ever went past lvl 15.

Metal armor is not ideal, but it's a lot better than leather.
Worse than combat armor, which I'd expect pretty much everybody to have by the time endgame nears.
Power armor, effective and I always ended up with at least one spare suit. Hated the looks though.

Couple of hard fights in the base, but I think you could just blow the place up without fighting them.
But if the fights are too hard, maybe adjust the difficulty? That's why the adjustment knob is there.

There's so much more to Fallout than killing things. You'll never see it all in one playthrough.

In case anyone cares, everything I said about this game being overrated is bullshit. I just completed the game after I found combat armor. Actually, after playing through this game, I would say that solo rpgs have more going for them than any party based game. Alot of it is trial and error. I will say one thing-fallout is very important to get a good armor. Without a good armor, anything you try will be half assed and melee is much harder. Take my tip from if anything. The end game was easy at 13.

Agreed. Maybe I'm biased because F1 and F2 are my favorite games of all time... but you can only say these games are overrated if you come from a generation that is used to big, hold-your-hand, sandboxy games like F3.

F1/2 were made when you actually had to think about how you created your character, your play style, etc. Hell, even JRPGs made you level your character up because certain areas had harder enemies. Enemy scaling is a relatively new "feature" - a bullshit one at that - essentially enabling anyone to beat the game or else they'll get frustrated and write a bad review on metacritic.

Fallout's been around for too many years and loved by too many people to be overrated. It's rated right where it should be: one of the best games of all time. Arguably the best.

I bought it off the shelf when it first came out, and I still play it through every couple of years. And you still have Fallout 2 to discover. Lucky.

Its the same thing that happened with Eschalon, Avadon, and any other game Ive encountered difficulty with but wanted to like

1-Play game
2-get ass handed to myself
3-ragequit
4-Come up with way not to get destroyed
5-Way works and I complete the game

From there it just goes back to me replaying the game. If there is replayability, I will likely replay the game at least a few times in the year. That chart has been how it works on almost every rpg I tried at first and couldn't get into, lol.

I played Fallout 1 with the community patches to iron out the bugs and make the game more coherent and I have to say I liked it a lot, but it was nowhere near as enjoyable as Fallout 2 - it's older brother.

The two games are very related, of course, but Fallout is shorter and the storyline is not as coherent as in Fallout 2 (of course Fallout 2 storyline kinda falls apart in San Francisco).

Fallout is a great game, Fallout 2 even greater - with a lighter and more humorous atmosphere and a bigger world, bigger plot and bigger guns.

Fallout is darker, shorter and more ... icky. ;)

Love them both to bits. I would nominate Fallout 2 as one of the five best RPGs ever made and include Fallout 1 there as a sort of 'prelude'.
