Its nothing like the other fallout games am i right?
If i recall (and its going back some way to when the game first came out and i played it for 5 minutes in a shop) its a turn based strategy game almost akin to final fantasy tactics??
Is there any story to it?
Any npc interaction?
Any loot collection?
Any point to it at all apart from just battle after battle?
- Can you play through the game using any other tactics apart from guns blazing?
Pretty much yes.
No idea what that is. But it is a squad based game that can be set to be turnbased. Though I prefer keeping it in realtime myself.
Yes.
More or less.
Suppose you could say that.
Well there's the story.
Of course. Infact just charging the enemy is most likely to get you killed.
Well, if you think it's a game like Fallout 1 or 2, you will get disappointed.
There is a story, but it's not that important. It is more like an explanation why you proceed like you do etc., and it's not like you would have a choice.
NPC interaction.. well, you kill them, they kill you ;)
Also you can buy and sell stuff and hire people for your squad.
Basically, it is more combat then the previous games, but it's, as they name implies, more tactical. A whole level, like a city, a camp or vault or something filled with raiders, super mutants, robots or whatever you are fighting against .
You may find yourself sniping some front guards, sneaking towards the gate, deploying explosives, throwing a grenade at some enemies in the courtyard to soften them up and alert them, so they will follow you when you run away, just to get blown up by your explosives etc.
Also there are different vehicles in Fallout Tactics, which you can use. You can drive them yourselfs, and the tank can even shoot itself. You may also have to escort the vehicle to some point etc.
I'm not quite sure, but i think you where able to repair them, and i think the enemy used some vehicles, too.
ok, thanks for the replies.
i dont think ill bother as i really dont like squad based tactical games (commandos, jagged alliance etc.)
doesnt sound like you can play any other way than combat. no talk your way out of combat etc?
Sorry, combat is most of the game. Well besides the rescue missions and the story if I recall correctly. A few other things... But you can't avoid it. Probably would be boring if you somehow managed to.
the combat is fun, it's not like 1 or 2, but fun nevertheless.
Im also a bit disappointed with tactics..
But the combat is fun
When im done im going to install
2. Awaken
Makes FT completely new storyline. It is based on Fallout 1 and offers about 30 hours of play in Fallout world.

get it here

Its a harder game than Fallout 1 or 2. And it does haev a story, a very good one at that.
I enjoy all three games, this being my second favorite after Fallout 2.
I honestly dont think I should sell you on Fallout Tactics that would be as cruel as trying to get you to buy Fallout Brotherhood of Steel for PS2.
Oh its not THAT bad, it's just a different type of game. A turn based tactical combat game set in the fallout universe rather than a fallout rpg. It's no worse in concept than a D&D RTS
Sure there's departures from the accepted storyline but frankly if the brotherhood was a deserting but ethical military unit who went solo after the bombs dropped or a group coming out of a vault, they're still awesome.
Personally I'm enjoying the game, there's a few sections that have been annoying or somewhat weird but overall I find it a good game that feels fallouty to me. Then again I like fallout 3 as well...

The original poster seems to have made his/her mind up already and decided not to buy... But in case anyone else opens this thread looking for reasons to buy, I`d like to throw in my 2 cents worth.
It isnt the same as Fo1 or Fo2, but is definitely the Fallout Universe in the same top down isometric view mode. The characters you play and kill are all definitely Fallout... the Super Muties and Deathclaws look great.
This game isnt about freedom to wander the wastelands like the Fo games, you are sent on missions to progress with specific target areas to complete missions...you do make your own way there either by foot or in vehicles you find.... and you will have encounters on your travels with Hostiles... but essentially this is just to swell your pockets and XP .
Everything is levelled (if I remember correctly)... you wont be able to equip yourself with a Bosar or Missile launcher within the first couple of missions, but you will end up with hundreds of AK47s to sell.... sadly... the value of these are scaled downwards depending on how many you sell... so no more harvesting certain weapons to make oodles of cash.
As you complete missions, you will have your "Rank" boosted and your stats will improve, and at each base you move to, there will be new recruits to ..well..recruit..lol
This pool of recruits grows, and receives xp and ranks depending on the missions they complete, how they perform etc...so that you can keep your team upgraded with veterans, or higher rank new choices as you move from base to base.
The missions are varied... some involve cleanouts using blasting power..others really require stealth... sneaking through a populated compound to gain access to a high roof area that has a generator that controls the alarm system.
Or you may be sent on a rescue mission...or a scouting mission.
As you see, it isnt like Fo1 or 2.... but I really enjoyed it and I`m a HUGE fan of F2.
At these prices on GoG, I really wouldnt worry too much about liking it or loving it...its well worth a try if you like the Fallout Universe. :)
lets just say its worse than fallout 1/2 but way better than FO3...
I was reading under the slayer perk on gamebanshee.com and the slayer perk states that you need to have an unarmed skill of 80%. Does anyone know if the slayer perk works if instead of unarmed, you have melee skill at 80. It has that on all the games, even fallout tactics. If someone wants to play melee, they have to level unarmed? That doesnt make sense.
