Hi all,
I'm currently in the Raider Camp, south of Shady Sands. I've killed a few of the Raiders already, and I had to save mid-battle. No matter what I, or any of the characters do in the next turn, (typically, Ian takes out someone in the northern most hut) I get this message in a pop-up window:
"The instruction at 004d2608 referenced memory at 8a30f328
The memory could not be read from
Click OK to terminate the application"
That then kills the game. Any advice on this would be really appreciated!
This question / problem has been solved by KeitaroBakaimage
If i remember correctly, saving during battle is NOT recommended as it crashed some saves. Maybe your problem is related to this ?
Try to load an older save if you have one, if not, you're screwed :(
Just to be safe next time, use unoficial patches, they have disabled saving in battles to avoid this.
Aaah, okay, thank you for your advice KeitaroBaka!
I think I may be screwed, but at least I know what to avoid next time!
Cheers!
A "memory could not be read" error is almost exclusively due to the progrram not referencing enough memory for the job it's about to do. The reasons why the program does this can be anything from programming error to problems interfacing with the OS to get the memory it wants (not unheard of in older games).
A likely suspect is that your savegame is corrupted (try playing from an earlier save and restarting the battle if you can). If so, there's nothing you can do other than replay the battle from scratch.
If you're getting this in other games / applications as well, your memory itself is the likely suspect and you should do a thorough memtest.
There's a more thorough "line of investigation" for these problems, which can be infuriating since there is no immediately obvious solution, that I can post if you still have problems / interest in seeing it.
Hi Stonebro, thank you for the in depth advice.
I have not gotten this pop-up anywhere else, so I'm assuming it's an in-game thing. In the end, I've elected to go back to an earlier save and restart from there (serves me right for not saving that often!).
Thanks for the offer to go into further detail, but so far, it seems to be back to normal. The moral I have learnt here is that it's best not to save mid-way through a battle!
Thanks for the replies though guys!
