Hi all,
I'm currently very mcuh enjoying myself playing Fallout 1 (on my second play through. Had to restart because I ran out of time...and bullets :( )
Anyway, What I;m wondering is, is there ever a point to targeting a specific body part? I've always found it better to just go for a volume of strikes rather then one that will normally miss. Can anyone be of assistance?
Thanks,
Matthew

Well, you can potentially cripple the limb you hit, and eye shots have a much higher chance of landing a critical hit.
or the groin shots... mmmm
as you progress in the game, your aim will improve and eye shots are much more likely to crit. It is very much worthwhile to aim for the eyes.
Although I will definitely vouch for the effectiveness of the fast shot perk. It can make a huge difference in a fight.
In Fallout 2 (before one of the later patches) fast shot applied to punching and you could get to the point where you could punch for 1 AP. With one of the big power fists you could do a ton of damage with that. The down side is you had to close range, the up side is you could just own the boxing matches in New Reno.
In the beggining its better to shoot without aiming for body parts. I always try to aim for the eyes if I have more than 60/70 acc. But from my experience, for the first run through Fallout its better to take "fast shot" perk" - (one less action point spent on shot, but you cant aim body parts at all) It gives huge difference in the combat and make it easier for newbies. Personally I prefer aiming body parts and have high critical hit chance. Its fun to watch those fatalities :)

you know, editing your character isn;t the best way to end the game :P it takes a lot of fun you know.
and about aiming.
i do it all the time, dont remember when i used normal shot :D but im playing fallout from 0 hour hehe so maybe thats why, groin shots are priceless :D
no... the messages you get after you shoot in the groin are priceless:P

I know it isn't the best way, but I've got a number of saves, just seeing what it's like for all the characters to be dead.
Point to targeting? It's fun! :D
The only time I don't aim is when I don't have enough AP due to a reload or something. Aiming is one of the best parts of the game haha

That's why I always use Bloody Mess. ; )
I love the critical hit color text too, It reminds me of when I use to play the paper and pencil game "Rolemaster", those were hilarious too.
ex: Foe is turned into a gelatinous pulp, try a spatula.
I think this really depends on how much AP you have. At least early in the game 2 shots might be better than 1 aimed one if you have enough AP. When youre fighting guys with high armor though a well aimed gaus rifle to the face can do wonders, though. Crits can get past armor and with the HUGE increase in crit chance for eye and head shot aiming later in the game will be a must
If I'm fighting a single foe, aimed shots to the face seem to work really well.
I killed a Death Claw with contiuous zero range shotgun blasts to the eyes - most of my shots were crits, and after the eye injury, it could barely hit or damage me. I had a really high (100%+) small guns skill, so it was easy for me to hit the eyes. But I was also ganked up on military drugs, so that helped a bunch.
If I'm being attacked by a crowd, I like to go for Burst attacks. You occasionally get lucky and hit multiple opponents, and if you drop a burst on someone who is attacking you HtoH, you usually drop them with one burst.
