Im planning on getting Fallout 3 and since i've heard that the GOG version is infinitely more stable than the Steam version, i decided to get it here. I have some questions regarding all this:

1. How stable is the game on Windows 7 64-bit with and without mods? I have a GTX 1060 6gb

2. What's the best (and preferably easiest, im the worst manual installer in the known universe) way to install mods for the game; NMM or FOMM? I have never used the latter but i have plenty of experience with the former. I get all my mods from Nexus Mods

3. I've heard the GOG version already has the 4GB patch and has no GFWL. However, i've also heard that it doesn't have the unofficial patch, the FOSE and it may or may not try to install GFWL when you try to install the game

4. Is it true that mods and other .esp's aren't active until after tutorial's over? If so, should i play through it and then install mods and such?

5. What's Fallout 3 like compared to New Vegas? NV's world felt kinda barren and empty with not much to do in it. Fact that it doesn't have any significant Enclave presence in it (they're cool AF as far as im concerned) and it's miniguns don't have spin up (heck, power armor and miniguns are the reason i got NV in the first place! Im a real sucker for those) don't really help

6. Speaking of which, what are the miniguns and power armors like and how to get them early, if possible?

I can answer some of your questions.

That really depends on the specific case. It's less stable with mods, especially if you install a lot of them. The main advantage of the GOG version is that it works "out of the box" for most people. The original has trouble to run on Windows 7. However there are also people who can't get the base GOG version of Fallout 3 to run without some tinkering. It's hard to say whether you'll experience trouble or not.

Stay with the NMM, if you have a lot of experience with it.

GOG version doesn't have GFWL and has the 4 GB patch, as you mentioned. Can't say anything about the unofficial patch. I presume it doesn't have it.

Fallout 3 is much worse than New Vegas in almost every aspect. If you have a feeling that NV world was empty (which I disagree with, it has plenty of side quests and a great main plot), you won't like the world you'll see in F3. You'll experience a lot of metro crawling which consists nothing more than feral ghouls. Side quests are also quite scarce when you compare it to NV. The writing of the main plot and dialogues also leaves a lot to be desired. But the power armors and miniguns are present on a much larger scale than in NV. :)

That would be considered a spoiler, but if you really want to know then read further. :)

Power Armors: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_3_armor_and_clothing#Power_armor

To use Power Armors you'll need to acquire the Power Armor Training perk. The fastest way to get it (a well as one of the suits) is to finish Operation Anchorage DLC. You can start it right after you get out of the Vault in the beginning of the game.

As for Miniguns, there's only one variant of it plus two types of Gatling Laser and unique variants of both the standard Minigun and Gatling Laser. None of them is easily obtainable in the beginning. The unique variants are even harder to get.

Hopefully the game won't suck... i just spent 20 euros on it and where else am i supposed get my minigun fix when the ones in NV don't have the spin up and the mod that supposedly fixes it doesn't

Game doesn't suck, but you should've waited for a sale. Fallout 3 is quite frequently at a discounted price here. Beware of F4 though. It's much worse than F3. As for the question about mods that I've omitted, there's no reason not to install them right away. Even if they activate after the tutorial, it won't change anything.
Just signed up JUST to play this friggin game, have had the retail disc GOTY and it would freeze up all the time, requiring hitting f5 every 5 seconds, for ten bucks i thought why not? Not only did it give me a solid half hour of no freeout bs, it even picked up the saves from the retail version I have (Don't understand how) I say try it, you have 30 days to refund it if it screws up, but even if I get freeze bs HLAF the time I did before i would still say worth it, now I can FINALLY finish this friggin game after 8+ years.
