I created a character and noticed that they had really high melee and unarmed skills, despite not being tagged skills. I looked at the formula and it says the base is 60% + other stuff, while according to the fallout wiki the formula is 40% + other stuff, which is much more reasonable.

I am using the 1.21 teamx english patch, by the way.

e: I did a clean install and the problem is still there. Unarmed and melee (and some other skills now that I look) are way higher than they ought to be.

For Fallout 1, unarmed is supposed to be 65% base plus attributes. Many of the other skills are fairly high as well, though unarmed has the highest base score. This is because you generally won't get past level 15 unless you grind lots and lots of random encounters in the desert.

In Fallout 2, the base skills are all lower because you can get to level 30+ without grinding, so you have a LOT more skill points to go around. With the FO1 base values, all of your skills would be maxed very very early, which wouldn't be as fun. So you start off with lower skills compared to FO1, but you end up being a lot stronger.

If you're playing Fallout 1, nothing is wrong, you're just looking at the wrong section of the wiki.
