Hello! I'm having some trouble with Fallout 2. When I launch the game, I have sound, but no visuals - just a black screen or a solid blue or brown screen. I've already tried re-installing, re-downloading, and pretty much everything mentioned in the trouble-shooting portion of the support section.

It's a bit hard to know what the problem might be without further information. What is your OS? Had you installed mods for the game, before this happening? Have you tried to find a solution in Google, or in sites dedicated to Fallout, like No Mutants Allowed?

Do you have any ATI card in your PC?
I heard that systems with ATI cards have problem running the old Fallout games.
I'm sorry to say that I don't know how to solve this, because I've never had this problem. : (

Well...nothing has worked and I'm done farting with it. I've tried everything on this site, I've tried everything that's been suggested, and I've tried some from searches. It would have been bad enough to have to go through all this rigmarole and have the game actually work. The fact that I've done all this and still have no changes, still can't play the game, AND can't get my money back is infuriating.

edit: I guess the silver-lining is I'm only out six bucks and some change. It's going to be a while before (IF) I download anything again, though.

I'm sorry you haven't been able to get it working. Did you submit a support ticket to GOG? You can do so under the "support" link at the top of the main page. That will notify GOG's support team of your issue and they may be able to help you fix it.

I wonder if it could be a resolution-related problem? Sometimes newer monitors / graphics cards have issues with displaying low resolutions, and Fallout 2's original resolution is fairly low. Drelmanes already mentioned the high-res patch... you should try the game with and without it to see if you can get the visuals working.

I also wonder if it could be related to directdraw, and old codec for 2D graphics that can cause glitches on newer systems. I don't really know how to fix it; I've had some issues with it on some older games but was able to fix it with fan-made fixes specific to those games (e.g. Jedi Knight). If Fallout 2 has any directdraw issues you can probably find fixes for them through google. I think the specific filename is usually draw.dll.

I assume you have already taken a look at graphics card drivers and made sure you have the latest version? Sometimes for specific issues you might need to get a specific OLDER version of your drivers too, but usually the latest drivers are the best choice.

I hope this doesn't sour you on GOG too much. They're actually really nice and helpful for the most part. My experience with their support has been great.
