Is perfectly smooth gameplay even possible in this engine? I installed NVTF. New Vegas mostly runs at 59-60, but I still get occassional FPS drops, usually when enemies spawn or when someone is lit on fire.

I want to know whether there's anyhting I can do or whether I'm wasing my time trying to fix it.

Gaming laptop:
Intel Core i7–8750H
1060GTX
8GB RAM
You can add some mods like :

https://github.com/xNVSE/NVSE/releases
https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/69779
https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/61265

I played around with the mods and some others. I managed to fix the fps drops during area/enemy loading or whatever. There's still some lagging during some combat encounters, but I don't think I'm getting that fixed, as nothing seems to work. Oh, well.

Thanks.
I tried all the recommended performance mods also and they helped some, but the thing which helped me completely fix the stutter was someone's recommendation on steam forums or here (don't remember, but thank you) by limiting game FPS to 64 using RivaTuner (see pic attached). Don't remember the reason why it helps, but it had something to do with engine peculiarities, tick rate or something similar

Follow the guide, for stutters, New Vegas Tick Fix and Heap replacer will do wonders, but yeah i recommend this guide which shouldn't take long and is useful + often updated with new mod releases.
